View Full Version : Should I change the 7100x?

I got this phone on o2 (UK) yesterday and although its an alright phone I feel I am missing too much in terms of features, especially coming from a PDA phone (Motorola A1000).

What I miss is the extendable memory, ability to carry photo albums and songs that I can listen through a top quality stereo headset. I also miss the ability to save a load of PDF, HTML and word docs locally on the handset and read on the train.

I also miss the camera and videos for getting random footage.

My question is can I change to another phone which will have all the creature comforts I am used to?

Whats the story with blackberry enabled phones by non-RIM manufacturers?

The BlackBerrys excel at wireless e-mail. Everything else is secondary. The "BlackBerry Connect" software has been a disappontment. If you want a camera and songs and blah blah blah, trade it in. You will never be happy. Get a Treo or something.

Depends what you want. If things like a camera and music are important for you then don't have a BB. You should be able to change the handset within 14 days.

BTW, what version of the os do you have on your 7100x. I called o2 to ask if a software upgrade is available and they couldn't tell me. Thanks!

Stephen - if you go to options - settings - applications you will see your app version. Mine is 4.0.2.

With o2 uk, you only have a choice of 2 phones - this one and the other larger one and I dont think that one has anything additional in the way of features.

So am I stuck with this phone? Do o2 supply any other phone on which i can use the blackberry service?

You won't find the same software (ie. SureType, etc) on another phone AFAIK so maybe you'd be better off with an w800i or something similar.

I felt the same way when I first got my BB. But now I wouldn't go back.

But the SE w800i doesn't work with BB services!

I think there are only 2 phones on O2 in the usk - this 7100x and the bigger 72??

Mind you, the 7100x is starting to grow on me - although I still miss the idea of storing documents locally and have to keep pulling off the server each time I read the same doc - e.g. a large PDF where I read 10 pages a day...

Does anyone know much about these BB-enabled 3rd party handsets I may be able to get??
