7100g and Cingular - Tethered Modem

I followed the instructions posted about setting up my 7100g to use as a modem. My computer recognized the modem, was able to dial and verify, then it crapped out.

I called Cingular to have the "WIX EXTENDED INTERNET $0.00", "WIX DATA CONNECT $0.00" added to my account. Evidently they need to open some ports for this to work. From reading the instructions, it appeared this was a free service from Cingular. They told me they offer this in plans varying from $20 to $80 per month.

Has anybody been able to use their 7100g w/Cingular as a modem? What's the deal with these "packages" and their prices?

BTW, I do have the unlimited BB data plan.

I worked with them a while back about this. One of the techs got it to work, but eventually told me that there was another fee for the service and it was like $40 per month. I also have unlimited BB data. It's apparently unrelated. Let us know what else you find out.
