I've heard from a source usully reliable that RIM is reworking the keyboard and will next release the 8700 with new Treo650 style keys.
Can anyone confirm this?

huh? Why would RIM release anything with junky keys? The Treo is notorious for a horrible thumbing experience. That would be a major mistake for rIM to do something like that.

Additionally We already see the minor case design difference they did with the Euro version of the 8700, and it's keys are still the same. I highly doubt that it would get modified.

Is there a link to the source of information you are talking about?

I doubt they would do that... and sure hope they don't, because I hate the treo keyboard!

The souce is a gadget segment producer for a national morning show.
He mentioned it to me when he was comparing the new Q (he had one of I believe 600 prototypes) to the 8700. We looked at them side by side. The Q keys were more defined, rounder, space between letters, and he said he heard RIM was looking at revising the keyboard based on initial complaints.

I really hope they don't. The Treo keys are definitely worse IMO... Considering the amount of space that there is on the device there's really not much choice. They could re-shape the keys but the main issue isn't the shape of the keys so much as the lack of space.

not a chance RIM would downgrade their keyboard to that of a treo

From what Iunderstand, it's type of keys, not the terrible 650 spacing.
