Hi there,

As an HTC guy (http://www.xda-developers.com), I'm not too familiar with BB's. However, my boss dropped her company phone and broke the LCD. She knew I'd replaced my own LCD, so she asked if I could do the same for her. The phone WAS working, but the lower 3/4 of the screen were just dead.

I didn't think it would be a problem and she ordered the part. Opening the BB and replacing the LCD was much easier than an HTC phone! Unfortunately, after reassembling the phone, all I got was a white screen.

I plan on opening it up and looking for "shorts" later, because this forum seems to chalk white screens up to that and water damage (which I know it isn't, obviously).

Any other ideas? Thanks!

make sure you have the correct screen version.

Well shoot...she ordered the LCD and it fit just fine, but could you point me to a resource where I can make sure she got the right one?

Thanks!

Thanks! Unfortunately, now I'm even more confused, as the two links you sent look like identical products. Just to clarify: you're saying that she COULD have purchased the WRONG LCD that would still fit, but would result in a white screen? If so, I really need a more detailed explanation on how to tell the difference.

I'll have my boss send over the eBay auction she won so I know exactly what she got. Without opening up the BB right now, I'm looking at the factory-sealed baggie it came in, which bears the codes "MC203" and "S2006," along with the date "10.08.2009."

Found a spare moment and opened the phone back up. Her new LCD has the exact same imprints on it as the those at the two links you posted: MD060315DC. I'm not sure if that means I have the right screen or not.

If not, which screen should I have?
If so, are there any other suggestions?

I also put the battery back in before inserting any screws, and got the same behavior. So if it's a short causing the white screen, it isn't a short caused by the batteries.

What happens when you put the old screen back in?

Well, I had thought of that, but I didn't want to go through the trouble. Now that I've "insulated" the entire area behind the screen to eliminate any shorts and THAT didn't fix it, what the heck.

Okay...so with the old screen on, with what little I can see...it boots up!

What does that mean? I'm not 100% sure that it's NOT booting up with the other screen...perhaps I'll try calling the phone after a few minutes.

Maybe the screen you have is a lemon?

Shoot...what are the chances of THAT? It came in a factory-sealed antistatic bag and I was extremely careful with it.

I guess I could order a second one...

Thanks. :(
