I recently purchased an unlocked Blackberry 8820 on eBay. The device was advertised as a new unlocked device. It was delivered and arrived as advertised. There is no carrier logo on the housing. In fact, the housing is metallic unlike the 8820s I've seen online which all have a blue housing. I called the seller and they explained that the device was purchased with several others at auction and they are in the same housing the seller bought them with. Inside the battery compartment is the standard RIM labels with the Pin and IMEI. I believe this to be an authentic RIM unit but what's with the metallic housing? Does anyone have an idea?

It could have had a 3rd party manufacturer housing replacement. My 8820 was black plastic with chrome. As far as I am aware there have never been metallic blackberrys.

I agree. After further research I found the housing online.
