I started having some strange issues with my BlackBerry yesterday that seem very virus-like.

Shortly after using BBM, my phone sent a ton of smiley faces (:smile:) to several of my BBM contacts, along with some junk spam message.

I haven't had the problem since rebooting my phone, but now I have an issue where I can't search for contacts in my phone from the homescreen. I have to go into my address book and search from there...

Has anyone had a similar problem and/or can anyone suggest a solution?

First thing with any wonky BB behavior is to pull the battery for 30 seconds or so. There are no viruses for BlackBerrys.

If there was a BB virus, it would be all over the news and all of the various BB forums and sites. Has not been one to date.

Funky things happen to electronic devices all the time. As Rambo pointed out, at the first sign of a problem, pull the battery and see if that fixes it. Usually does,

Similar - actually a variant.

C = Chair
B = Brain

Very similar

And often distributed in the same manner. Not generally contagious, but there seem to be more and more cases popping up these days.

They do tend to appear in clusters.

My Verizon BB Tour has recently begun acting VERY sluggish, making doing just about anything on my phone a major pain. Anytime i navigate anywhere through the phone, it takes 20-60 seconds to react and in addition to that main issue, now when i web browse the arrow won't allow me to select any links by pushing the trackball button, rendering my web browsing nearly impossible.

Everyone online maintains that there aren't any BB viruses and to just "pull my battery"....which I've had to do enough times to know that definitely hasn't helped the problem. PC viruses I've encountered seem to have similar symptoms...

I'm close to just taking the phone into Verizon, but thought I'd post this in case anyone has words of wisdom...

There still aren't any viruses on BlackBerry.

When you reboot your phone you will lose any data that wasn't backed up off the phone.

You may just be running to many apps and programs on your phone. Also if you have alot of pictures and messages in your phone this will slow it down as well. Try getting rid of all the stuff you dont need on your phone and see if that helps.

What? Why would you say such nonsense?

This is not true. A reboot is the same as a battery pull and you will not lose any data.

This could be the case. Go into Options > Status and let us know what is listed under File Free.

Sorry, what I meant was when you wipe the handheld.

I had similar problems with mine but they disappeared when I upgraded my OS.

yes, I can easily see how one could confuse the term "reboot" with "device wipe" as they are so similar :-P
