I have done a couple of searches, but have not found the answers that I am looking for. I am a former 7100g user, and I currently carry a Treo 650, with which I am not very happy: I am, of course, thinking of picking up a 8700c. I would really appreciate feedback from people on the board who have switched from the 7100 series to the 8700 series. I understand that the SQ is significantly improved; are there other changes in functionality (size, and form factor, obviously, notwithstanding).

thanks in advance,

Find the tips link in my signature line. You won't go back. I laugh at my 7100g when I see it lying in my drawer now.

i made the switch from 7100 to 8700, and it's like night and day. some people love suretype but i found it to be a pain in the arse. now, what i type is what i get. the screen is beautiful, in both sunlight and darkness. the speed is sooo much better than the 7100 and web browsing is now practical and extremely useful on the go. The build quality is also better than the 7100 (which had this flimsy battery door), but as i understand it the build quality is not as great as the 72xx series, but it's okay by me. my 8700 is solid (though i do have a few specks of dust in my screen as do many others- but when tmobile comes out with their version, i will simply switch to that).

i can email, text message, im, web browse, play games, alot more easier with the 8700. I also have scrapped my win mobile pda, and am using the 8700 as my primary PIM device, keeping my contacts and calendar on it. With the 7100, i didn't use the calendar cause of screen real estate, but with the 8700, appointments look great, as does the day/week/month/agenda views. As i said, the difference is like night and day. I have not regretted the switch for one minute.

I upgraded from the 7100g to the 8700. The 7100 worked great, but suretype got to me after a while. I work in the computer industry and suretype is pretty useless for the industry's endless acronyms. I have medium sized fingers and don't have any complaints with the 8700's key size.

While the display on the 7100 was great, it doesn't compare to the 8700's. Unlike the 7100, the 8700 can be used in direct sunlight.

The phone reception and quality is much better from my experience. The bluetooth implementation is solid as a rock as well.

Also, the Intel chip is VERY fast in comparison. I think this is the biggest improvement over the prior models. Everything you do is instant. Add this with EDGE data and web browsing is actually usable.

I also am a convert from the 7100g. I did like suretype, but agree having QWERTY back is a big plus. I love the 8700, its a great phone, awesome screen I can use outside, with noticably faster Internet browsing. The processor is so much faster its scarry and very nice to have.

All in all I will never go back to the 7100, its like a BMW versus a Pinto, no comparison.

I made a change from a 7100i to the 8700c. I was very disapointed with the receive audio level compared to my 7100i. The 7100i speaker phone is almost twice as loud. Earpiece volume is also low compared with the 7100i. In my opinion, the 7100i is a better phone and the 8700c is a better PDA.

i hated my 7100g... it was the worst phone I ever owned - SQ was terrible! Audio was terrible!

the 8700C is wonderful! great sound... great everything!

No contest for me.

It was like going from a '72 Pinto to an '06 Benz.
They both got you were you needed to go but there is a huge difference in useability IMO.

Plus it's a chick-magnet (yea right!!)
