There are two ways to cut over to a different ( mirrored ) SQL instance in 5.0.2

1. We either have to edit 4 registry keys for DatabaseServerMachineName
However we have been told by RIM that while they don't support this method of fail over, it should work

or

2. Rerun the installer

Thoughts, comments?

In BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 and 4.1, the Change Database button is available in the BlackBerry Server Configuration Panel. This option is no longer available as of BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0.
To configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to use a new BlackBerry Configuration Database or a new database server, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server setup application must be run again. The default location of the setup executable is C:\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.0\setup.exe
NOTE: After the setup has completed and the services restarted, message flow and organizer synchronization will continue as usual. No interaction is required by the BlackBerry smartphone users.

looks like a tough choice, I would rerun the installer.

if the installer is rerun, are SPs and MRs required again, as well?

I have just tested the SQL db failover to a new instance name, by means of editing the registry entries for DatabaseServerMachineName and it did work.

Hi Mikey,

I thought of this solution in the morning. You have wrote that "have to edit 4 registry keys", can you provide the path for 4 registry keys.

Cheers!!

My question is, instead of switching DB's, what if I wanted to use the same DB on SQL, but I wanted a fresh install of BES 5.0.1? Basically we are having issues with our server, and want to re-image the box, reload BES, and point it at the DB, will this cause any issues or will the users/DB pick right back up?
