I recently upgraded the OS on my 9700 and discovered the map icon for BB maps was missing. I had previously downloaded a non AT&T Theme and following these directions it did display. So I did not expect it to disappear. It did. Apparently when the OS is upgraded the program downloaded from RIM to force an icon display is removed. I re-downloaded the program from RIM and it now displays. It still doesnít display on the AT&T themes but the one I did get works fine.

So if others have the issue I thought I would list out the solution again. The link was in another post from an OP I canít seem to find but thanks.

First you need to download a theme that is non ATT.
try the first post on this thread.

The download BB maps from RIM
BlackBerry - PDA GPS - BlackBerry Maps at BlackBerry.com (http://www.blackberry.com/maps)

Then go to the site from the BB browser.

mobileapps.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?code=maps_sbi

The BB maps icon will be in the applications folder of the new theme.
IT will NOT be in any ATT theme.

Both links work better from the BB but the maps app can be downloaded via your computer with the BB connected. It will not work (download) without it seen by Rim.

The second link will download an Icon app to allow it to display on the NON att theme.

Update;
Sometimes the BB maps icon will disappear and regardless of the application listing showing it is installed you may have to re-download the Icon display at this link. No idea why it goes away but it may. This puts it back.
