You cannot delete pre loaded ring tones or wall paper...
why do you need more memory

It is possible. You need desktop manager & Shrink-A-OS. Make a backup, make sure you've downloaded your OS, run SAOS deleting preloaded ringtones & themes (you need to keep the default dimension theme), wipe your OS & then run apploader. You will need to have a backup of your 3rd party apps. I use bbsak. Good luck!

Good advice to void the RIM warrantee. Your suggesting modifying the OS. Not good.

Does not void warranty. You can always reload everything with desktop manager. Your carrier would just have you reload your OS if you called in with any issues. You can also download all the 'preloaded' ringtones to your SD card.

Still seems a lot to go through to just delete some ringtones and wallpaper.

I agree. My 8330 is very limited on memory, but I doubt I would do it on a newer phone with more memory.
