No. Sprint do not activate Verizon devices, just like Verizon don't activate Sprint devices.

Same answer. You can't "unlock" CDMA devices. You can only unlock GSM devices. Sprint will not allow Verizon BBs on their network.

No. A 8330 is CDMA and cannot be unlocked.

Sorry to thread-jack, but I was given a hand-me-down Verizon 8330 from my sister, and am going to spend the next couple of months in a South American country which happens to have a CDMA network (I've even seen people using imported Verizon-branded phones). I'm just wondering:

1) Any special steps I have to take in order to use the phone on the other network (akin to "SIM unlocking" of GSM phones)?

2) Do I have to register separately with RIM to use Blackberry Messenger?

3) Is there anything else I should know about that I don't (total BB noob)?

Thanks for any and all help :-)

1. You need to call the South American company and specifically ask them if they will activate a Verizon device on their network. Many CDMA carriers will not activate devices branded from other carriers.

2. Yes. BlackBerry Messenger requires a BlackBerry Data Plan to be active on the device.

3. Call. Call. Call the carrier to verify what you need to do. Before you go.
