For now, every time I open the "messages" icon it displays all of my FB alerts, missed calls, placed calls, and text messages. This is annoying, anyone know how to adjust it so that ONLY my email messages show?

Messages > Options > Inbox Management
Uncheck anything you don't want to appear there.

Penguin, I did that, but text messages was the only option that appeared that I could uncheck. There were no options for FB, missed calls, or placed calls. Weird...do you know of any other ways to manage it?

You need to go into the Facebook app options and change the Message Integration settings there.
Same with Phone for Missed/Placed calls.
