BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.1965 (All Languages)
For any carrier's 9700 model, follow the instructions below.

Package Version: 6.0.0.1965
Consisting of:

Applications: 6.0.0.461
Software Platform: 6.6.0.137
File name: 9300AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel1965_PL6.6.0.137_A6.0.0.46 1_Telus_Mobility.exe
File size: 170.64MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=02A32AD2669E6FE298E607FE7CC0E1A0

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-9700-series-discussion-bold-2/244768-latest-os-9700-6-0-0-1879-6-0-0-448-all-languages.html

How come I cannot download this "official" OS, over the air? Doesn't BB make the latest "official" OS available for OTA downloading?

Thanks

John Clark

You can only do OTA updates when your carrier pushes it out.

There is no visual voicemail included with this OS for some reason. If you read about it over in the Beta You Than Me forum you'll see it was a problem there too You'll have to remove the modules and alx file from a previous build.

if you experience this again take your old backup fiel from when you had the device with 5.0 software do a selective restore and only restore your services books to the device. Hope this helps!

So far so good. Battery life was suffering pretty bad with .424 compared to the release prior. Lets see if this one improves.

Just something trivial, but has anyone else noticed that with OS6, the camera no longer has the option of taking B&W/ Sepia photos?

John Clark

Yes, B&W photo option was removed in OS6.

I am currently running 5.0.979.

I would be grateful for a brief list of the pros/cons of this build over my current OS. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There are literally thousands of posts all over this forum about OS6 and it's new features.

If you click the "previous OS" links in the first post you can go back and review discussions about all the previous builds. Earlier threads will likely discuss more about features and later threads will discuss more about bugs and issues.

Lots can be found in the search bar, as well.

I did the upgrade on friday. Here are some of my observations on this

- OS is stable but eats up more memory. With OS5 I have 55mb memory but in OS 6 my memory starts at 42mb but degrades fast and I've had to do a battery pull and delete applications three times already.

- A little slow scrolling down for more icons using the trackpad

- Very responsive moving side to side into the different pages

- Different menus take a while to get used to. OS 5 and before it was easy to get to options etc. This is like a new language and take a bit to get used to

- I like the universal search and the fact you can get to battery, WI FI, Bluetooth quickly.

- Webkit browser much faster than I expected which was a pleasant suprise

- Facebook works well with OS6 rather than OS5

Overall decent but I would say for the 9700 - not enough memory and speed to run this. Perhaps the 9780 is doing better i'm not sure.

I would say test it out first before you think its for you.

Thank you for the release. Are Asian languages and more specifically Japanese included in this version?

Thank you.

Just upgraded from OS5 to OS6. I am pretty impressed. However such a drastic change in appearance has def got my hands full. It is taking a bit to get used to.

Pros.
-i like how on the home screen u can click the date and time area and it brings up your connection status as well as alarm clock settings. nice feature (2 less icons to have on ur menu)
-i like how the menus do a quick fade in/out when making a selection
-i like the new ringers/ tunes
-bbm colours and layout are nice
- on home screen i like when u hover over an icon the text is super small for what you are hovering over (kinda dumb but i like)
-calendar app is nice
- browser is nice. easy to switch between multiple windows.
-camera - u can select between 10 shooting modes (night, beach, snow, text, landscape, sports etc)
-video cam - can select light on if u want, also change video resolution (cant remember if this available on os5)

cons
-so far when im in my message box (i merge my email inboxes with sms and others etc), when i click menu button to compose new sms, i have to get into a submenu under "compose other" to initiate this. Before you would just choose which type of message you want to send in the menu (sms, email, pin mssg etc). unless i am not seeing something??

- in bbm; when viewing someones profile, u can't just slide over to their display pic to enlarge it, you have to hit menu and then click "enlarge display picture". small detail but why make it more complicated?

- in address book, there is a photo next to each entry. I wish you could disable this because i dont have pics for every contact, so its just some default grey empty box next to each individual name on my address book. wish it was cleaner. also like os5, you cannot change the size of font for address book. its so large u can only see 4 contacts before you need to scroll (just personal pref for me i guess)

-its a completely diff look if you are typing someones name from the homescreen to call them. like if i type "leo" it automatically brings up leo as my contact but also calendar, search youtube, search blackberry app, google local search, and search yahoo. all of this on a new search screen. i wish it just went to contact list automatically like os5, however maybe there is a way to change this back??

does anyone have a list of shortcut keystrokes for this os?

After the 461 update and a few days of using, i have restarted the device and receive the error: "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointer Exception"
The SMS service was disabled and the icon dissapears from the homescreen. I cannot receive SMS anymore. I must wipe the device and reinstall the OS. This happen twice till now.

I currently have 6.0.0.1879/448, and there was no Blackberry App World on this OS, although it said it was already installed if you tried to re-install it. I saw other posts on this on the old thread so others were having the same problem. So is it visible on this version?

dang it... then idk what's wrong... uma has always worked until this upgrade... i have the mobile network off and only wifi on and it's not working... signal is good... internet works... i've noticed the little blackberry symbol is next to the wifi bars now... don't know what that means... but usually it says UMA or uma where the network signal bars are... but nothing but the word 'off'

i'll give it a try but i pull the battery at least once a week... and it's not worked at other wifi connections as well

Yes, sms only works over UMA or EDGE. Look in mobile network Options and make sure its set to wifi preferred. Then do a wifi diagnostics and see if it tells you anything in there.

Harry, just google: 9300AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel1965_PL6.6.0.137_A6.0.0.46 1_Telus_Mobility.exe. You'll see other options where to download.

It's rather naive to think that RIM programmers are not capable of writing bad code.

I got my first BB in 2004 and started visiting this forum then. "Memory leak" has been talked about for the last eight years that I'm aware of. It happens. Time to quit worrying about a "fix" as a "fix is likely never coming. It may not even be "broken". It is what it is.

After many issues with 6.0.0.448 hanging on me and email send/receive issues, I decided to revert back to 5.0. POOF! Problems gone. I will try again if/when AT&T releases 6.0 for the 9700. For me, reliability is everything. :P
