OT suggestion: Sell it on Ebay and buy him a non-PDA cell phone.

I would wipe it, but make sure the service books are at least on there. If he has a data plan on the account he can at least view wap sites but not much else, and maybe get away with IM on it.

I think you should only delete information that is personal. Let him decide which applications, etc. are not necessary for him, even if it is only going to be voice service. I would want to decide for myself, but it's all about the preference of the user.
