Hi,

The utility to add back the "C"ompose keypress shortcut, has now been released:
http://wireless.sra.com/utils/ (http://wireless.sra.com/utils/)

More details:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=23479 (http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=23479)

This brings up the new blank email compose of OS 4.1, rather than the addressbook, so one can always type at the main screen things like:
"Crej<enter>" = Creates an email to Mark Rejhon
"Cjo sm<enter>" = Creates and email to John Smith
"Csomebody@<hidden><enter>" = Creates an email to somebody@<hidden>

This is also useful on all OS 4.1 upgraded BlackBerries that have lost the Compose keypress (except SureType models such as 71XX)

To get access to keyboard shortcuts for icons, disable dialing from home screen (Phone->Options->Dial From Home Screen->No). You'd just have to press the green phone button first before dialing, but most people do that anyway on most phones.

Thanks for the tip and the link. And who is SRA? I'm fairly new to the BB platform so if it's been around for a while and is well known, please help educate me.

Wirelessly posted (8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Working nicely so far. On Cingular theme if its in app submenu then it won't work. If you put the app submenu on the ribbon bar before the address book icon then, the A keypress should get you to the App sumbmenu and not the address book, so a keypress of AC should work.

Mark a big thanks for this program. I would also like to know who wrote this.

Rambler, do you think you can fix the issue with cingular theme for composer to press "C" from Main menu instead of going to sub menu (applications folder) then press "C" to bring it up? Thanks for this cool program.

Thanks for the great utility. What is the other download on the page "TextMob"? I downloaded it but do not see that it does anything.

Who built the compose utility? It's commendable that someone was willing to do that and not charge for it.

The app is great....thank you! I noticed that after I compose and send an email, it takes me back to the Message list. Then, if I press the button below the thumbwheel, it starts to compose a new message. Is that normal? Before installing the app, pressing that button would escape to the Home screen.

You can always press the red key instead I guess, and think of this as the rapid firing multiple email app.

Who built the compose utility? It's commendable that someone was willing to do that and not charge for it.I offered a small reward (http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=23479) for the first person to provide the utility free of charge. Ramble (SRA) took up that opportunity.

Source code for the "C"ompose utility can be found here (http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=23479). It's only 10 lines or so!

Back in my old Palm days there was a great program called Datebook 5 that enhanced the address book and calendar. What I really liked was one particular feature.

You could put an item on the calendar "Call x" and the address book would pop up and let you choose thier number. With the ability of the BB to dial from the number that would be awesome.

I assume this can be done, since Google Local invokes a Call feature.

Does anyone else think this would be useful?

That would be a good feature. One trick I have found is that you can copy a phone number from your address book and paste it into the Subject field of an appointment. When the apptointment notification pops up, open it and scroll to the Phone # and click. Click again and it dials the number.

Hope this helps.

ON the 7250, if you are using the icon based themes, you don't need this feature as its already there. If you are using a text only theme, I can see your problem but you could change it to an Icon theme to avoid the issue...I would think...

I ride a Dean now (custom US build). Mostly an access issue. Used to live on a mountain. Now I would eat into my riding time since it's not convienent.

So how do you carry your BB on a bike. I use the low tech method. In a plastic bag in the back of my jersey or jacket. I leave it in the hoslter and will hopefully get a OEM leather case for it soon.

I race with my BB in the original holster either clipped to my suspenders, or if wearing jeans while riding my ZX10R, on the belt. Haven't lost the BB yet...now if only I could get high quality B/T in ear monitors that could work as well for my iPOD as a phone...then I'd be completly mobile!

Cool. I used to have much larger PPC's and a Treo so I have a smaller cell phone and I forward the BB to it when I ride. The BB is smaller so I've thought about carrying it with me but still like the smaller size phones for riding. Plus, I don't worry about it getting scratched or dropped.

??

This is just not true. Not with software version 4.1 on the 7250. The "c" shortcut is not there just like every other version of 4.1.

I am using the default theme, fyi.
