After all the knowledgable advice I have received here, I still cannot lock my keyboard, but have to lock the entire device to avoid inadvertently dialing a very wide selection of phone numbers from my address book!

I was setting up another 8700 in my office today, and realized what all you guys have been referring to when you suggest I select "Keyboard Lock" from the Option>Screen/Keyboard>Convenience Key Opens: Keyboard Lock. There, on the 8700 was the option of selecting Key Board Lock, directly below the option: Internet Brower.

Well on my unit, that option (on the default Cingular theme, RIM 4.1) does not exist. My only option reads simply: lock.

Why do I not have the option Keyboard Lock available and how can I get it?

Cheers.

I think if you have a password set you can "lock" your device. If you have no password set then you can only "keyboard lock" it.

Pressing K doesn't work on the 8700? That's what I do on my 7290.

Yes, pressing k for a short period of time still works on the 8700, assuminng you have "Dial From Home Screen" set to No (as usual, but people forget or don't know).

I also set the center convenience key to lock the BB.

It may be hidden.... press alt than press in on the scrool wheel and choose show all. You might find more icons.

What Icons you can hide or reveal is theme dependant and the cingular theme is the only one I can find where you CAN hide the Keyboard Lock Icon
