Good article. The answer to why topping off the battery is better vice running it down before charging is there, but the reader will have to be paying attention. Hint: Batteries in Hybrid Vehicles versus All-Electric.

Also notice high temperature is mentioned more than once.

I found it interesting too and it does seem to confirm that deep discharging is not ideal and heat is a killer.

Getting it below 20% a few times will damage/kill it.
