What apps do I have to download to protect my unit from theft?
Where can I find those apps and d/l procedures?

From theft? well, you really can't prevent that... though you can guard against loss of data should it unfortunately occur.

BlackBerry Protect and SmrtGuard are the two best apps out there for this purpose. Both work well, for many uses including remote wipe, remote backup, remote locating, etc.

So where do I get both these apps and their d/l and install procedures from ?

Google is your friend.

BlackBerry - BlackBerry Protect (http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/protect/)

SmrtGuard Mobile Security - Smartphone Security, Identity, and Privacy Solutions (http://smrtguard.com/)

Those are the browser links but both appear to be available thru Blackberry App World.

my wifes 9700 was stolen from her car last night. today i spent almost an hour on the phone with the police tracking it. in short the phone was recovered and two peoplewere arrested. at one point the accuracy of the app was less than 3 metres.

Blackberry Protect is pretty much useless in the event of theft or if your battery is dead (if the criminals aren't dumb like the 2 that were caught from darkmanCANADA's post).

In the event of theft, someone takes your SIM card and puts in there's and BB protect is useless.
