I was wondering if BBM chats that were deleted could be tracked by the cops. And I also heard there's like a PIN message you can send that can never ever be tracked how do you do that?

Thanks.

Octavio.

Ya gotta wonder why someone would be so paranoid about the police seizing the device / records.

Crime is bad! Just say NO..

You can use this list to find your area office, call them as they should be able to help....

If you on BES, the logging is configured on the BES Server can be enable or disabled from the BES Server. You have no control of that, since your IT Department controls the IT Policy.

Why on earth would anyone seriously answer this question when it obviously entails criminal activity..

To add to the paronia, all emails and all text messages regardless of the type including BBM pin messages are stored by the carriers. Any email or text, once it leaves the PC or cell phone is considered public and can be gotten by various organizations. Did you ever wonder how wickileaks gets info. Also the US has started Archiving all messages for future release by the Library of Congress. I'm sure other governments will also at some point. Remember it hits the public airwaves or internet and is considered public domain information. generally the authorities simply get a court release to get recent emails or text messages. It does to protect the carriers not the users.

Read the link below

HowStuffWorks "Can the government read your private e-mails?" (http://people.howstuffworks.com/stored-email1.htm)

YES, you absolutely can.

By BBM? In otherwords, simply by having a BBM convo with them?

Well, I guess I shouldn't say "you", but law enforcement can. A BBM message is comprised of packets, which can be sniffed out and decrypted by the three-letter agencies, and the messages can also be requested from RIM with a warrant.

Tracking a person's movement doesn't even require them to send a message though because as soon as the device attaches to a mobile network it can be triangulated by both the cellular signal as well as the IP address that the device receives. Sending messages just makes the IP triangulation easier.

If the police want to go through the trouble of obtaining a warrant for whatever it is you did, then yes, RIM has a record of your BBM texts.

PIN messages and BBM messages are one in the same (if I recall correctly).

Your carrier (and you can assume your BES admin if you have one) also has copies of text mesages you sent and received as well as phone calls placed and received by your device.

The recipient also has a copy of the BBM text. Don't forget to have them delete the message if it's something you're worried about.

Don't act a foo!!

Carnivore. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnivore_(software))

QM, you didn't say "bomb" on a plane, did you? Everybody knows you can't say "bomb".

what about PGP email? do the feds have a back door to decode those encrypted emails? just curious.. seems this thread got some attention.. lol

I would assume that the three-letter agencies also have a back door into PGP. I do not know this, but it is reasonable to make that inference.

The smart choice would be, if you have to worry about it, don't do it....

Well, that's completely irrelevant to this question as there is no way to use PGP or any encryption on BBM messages.

rambo47

And yes, the NSA has a backdoor into ALL encryption programs. Even if they don't have a backdoor, Fort Mead's data center can probably crack it in real time.
