My AC charger works fine, so does the PC/USB. However, I need a spare charger for my 8700c and 3rd party solutions don't seem to work: When I plug the AC charger via the USB charge/synch cable to the 8700, I get the Lightning Bolt. But it goes away after a couple of seconds even though it needs charging. I don't have this problem with this same cable and adaptor with my other devices like the i-Mate K-Jam etc. It's not just this adaptor: Even the charger that works with my Holux 236 GPS isn't compatible with the 8700 (works with everything else). Any ideas?

Also, where can I find a replacement RIM wall charger (with folding clip)? blackberry.com doesn't have any for Canadian customers (Only for USA). I saw one on eBay which says that it will also be compatible with the Moto RAZR. If anyone has a BB 8700 and a RAZR, can you please tell me if the RAZR's charger works with the 8700? Thx, Sabesh.

BB and Razr charges are not compatible. You would be better to go with an OEM charger. There have been numerous aftermarket or 3rd party accessories (chargers/batteries) have damaged devices and hurt people (referring to an incident i read in the news a couple of days ago when a womans phone exploded giving her 3rd degree burns they determined the cause to be an aftermarket faulty battery) .

NOW BY NO MEANS AM I STATING THAT ALL AFTERMARKET ACCESSORIES WILL HURT YOU OR YOUR DEVICE, I am only stating that I recommend OEM accessories. I acknowledge that there are probably OEM accessories that have caused their fair share of issues. I just feel safer using something thats OEM

I'm in Canada. No Cingular here. Rogers doesn't carry them yet last time I checked.

Cheers, Sabesh.

What about ordering one from Cingular's website. I would imagine they are compatible.

Try this: http://www.shopblackberry.com/_blackberryaccessoriescan/cgi-bin/go.cgi/webstore/category_by_model?category=BlackBerry%208700r

It is for 8700r, but everything will work on your 8700c. This page conveniently lists prices in Canadian dollars.

I have both the BB and Razr chargers. They seem similar. The specs are as follows:
BB 8700c:
output 5Vcc 0.75A
Razr:
output 5.0 v (with a symbol following of a straight line on top of a dashed line and 550 mA

Are these compatible, other than the max current? I would prefer only taking one on trips. If both are dc or ac the it would seem possible.

I bought one on eBay that works great. $2.99 + $6.00 postage to Canada.

Here is what the listing said:

Blackberry High Quality, Non OEM Travel/Home Charger (AC)
“Fits all the Blackberry Models - Compatible with all BlackBerry models
Fits 6510 7230 7280 7750 7100 8700”

Unless they have changed the 8700 series, your razr and BB charger will not work. I had the 7290 and tried using a Razr charger at work because it was the only kind of chargers available on hand.

Thanks, but once I add it to the cart and proceed towards checkout, I get message saying that it's out of stock. In any case, I'm not sure that they ship to Canada. I'm leaning towards ordering from eBay at this point. Cheers, Sabesh.

BB and Razr charges are not compatible.

Bad info...BB 8700c and Razr chargers ARE compataible, both wall and car.

May RAZR charger DOES charge the BB (both 7290 and 8700). I have seen a Mototola charger that didn't work though.

Also I just bought the new Motorola H700 bluetoooth headset and the charger for it also charges the BB no problem.

The RAZR chargers will charge the BB.... the BB charger doesn't charge the RAZR. Just becasue the charger has a mini USB end doesn't make it compatible. When the RAZR first appeared many people thought the exisiting Moto MPx200 (mini USB) chargers would work - they were disappointed.

Best case scenario is to use the OEM product for a given phone. That is the surest way to meet YOUR performance expectations. Manufacturers spend a lot of time with QC and performance testing... why compromise for 7 or 10 bucks?

If you'e in a pinch it's probably worth the risk but long term I would stick it out with OEM.

I apologize for the mis information. The models that I had tried to use were the older model razrs and the older model BB (7290).

I tried it this morning with my girlfriends Razr and my 8700c. Works great from what I can see

I was out of town on business and got stuck paying retail for a OEM razr charger to charge my 7290 40 bucks plus tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it doesnt work as good as my $2 indonesian model
imho
BTW you can interchange BB 7290<=>razr chargers ( or at least mine do)

i have had a similar problem; the ansnwer is that the RAZR requires about 700 ma; the bb charger puts out 500 ma; it; so you can use razr to charge bb but not the converse

RIM sells accessories -- first it was only for the 7100 series, but now it's for all models. They'll sell/ship to a bunch of countries, and the pricing doesn't seem too bad.

My BB8700 is plugged into a Razr charger and it charges perfecty --and fast. Works vice versa too...

My RAZR charger also charges my BB8700r. Even better I just bought the Motorola H700 bluetooth headset. The charger for it also charges the BB and the RAZR.

The USB cable for the BB also charges my headset via USB.

All this makes it much easier to travel.
