More key executives at Research in Motion are leaving the embattled phone maker as newly appointed CEO Thorsten Heins is under fire to turn things around.

CNBC has learned that Alistair Mitchell, former vice president, BBM Platform & Integrated Services is no longer with the company and Alan Brenner, senior vice president, BlackBerry Platform will be leaving the company after a transition period.

This news comes on the heels of disappointing fourth quarter results with revenue that missed analysts' expectations, the resignation of co-CEO Jim Balsillie, and news that the company would complete a “comprehensive review of strategic opportunities.”

Magic bananas is right. Chopping off heads might be much needed for RIM... at least right up to the point where there is no one left. In other words, letting people go, or firing them, might help clear out the dead wood, but it also causes some remaining employees to reconsider their employment with the company. Some of those will leave on their own even if the CEO had not intended for them to be gone. It's a very slippery slope.

Of course, but whatever they've been doing isn't working, so it's time to make some changes.
