My 8120 of two years met the ocean two weeks ago. I ordered a used one from Ebay to replace it and it's been working fine. I wiped it, updated the OS, and everything is great. But I can't send or receive MMS messages. If someone sends me one, it never shows up. If I try to send one, I get the clock icon (the one you get when the phone is waiting for service), even though my signal is strong on the edge network and sms texts go fine.

My old 8120 sent MMS messages without a hitch every time. I don't have a data plan, but I don't think that should matter. 4 of the 5 people on our family plan don't have data but can send MMS texts, 3 out of 5 now that it's stopped working for me.

I'm using the same SIM card (which survived the ocean), so I don't know what the issue could be. Maybe something happened when I switched phones or updated the OS?

Current OS: 4.5.0.124

Help?

Do you have a BB data plan ? If so, did you change the IMEI and PIN in your BIS account ?

No, I don't have a data plan with T-mobile, but that's never been an issue in the past. When I first got my phone, I just popped in the SIM card and both SMS and MMS worked great. I don't know what the "IMEI and PIN in my BIS account" are.

You need a BB data plan to send MMS. Are the others in your family plan using a BB?

Since you don't have a BB data plan, you don't have a BIS account for email, etc.

No, nobody else in my family uses a BB, but they can send MMS. Why do you say I need a BB data plan when I obviously didn't before when I was using my Peal to send MMS? All that's changed is I replaced a Pearl 8120 with another Pearl 8120. Two years of experience with BB tells me that I don't need a data plan for MMS.

You do need a BlackBerry data plan. The ability to send MMS on a BlackBerry is done by service books, which are not received by the device unless there is an active BlackBerry data plan on the account.

Okay. Then how was I able to send and receive MMS on my Blackberry for two years without a data plan?

There were service books present on that device. It was active on a BlackBerry data plan at some point in time.
