I am going to buy a playbook car charger, and I was wondering if playbook car charger can charge BB9700 smartphone as well? Thanks.

I use the same car charger for my phone and PlayBook.

I don't know if playbook car charger is too strong for phone 9700(different current),will it be damaging the phone or overcharging?

RIM supports using the stock PlayBook charger as a BlackBerry smartphone charger. I have been using the same car charger with my PB and 9810 for 9 months. When I travel I only take the PlayBook travel charger.

I just phoned a store ,they told me that playbook & smartphone are different car charger.

That's because it's in their best financial interest to sell you two even though you really need only one. But if you don't believe us here, you can go ahead and buy two and pay twice as much $$ as you really need to.

I've charged my PlayBook in my car from a Samsung car charger with no ill effects. Basically, if the plug fits, use it.

with plabook in standby it will charge fairly fast, if using it the battery will drain slightly

you need a high amperage car charger and RIM does make one and a few after market places do make them as well. you need about 2 amps to really get the charge going and most car chargers supply .5 to .7 amps. I have one that does 1 amp and the phone charges quick and playbook with use will charge slowly.

I bought a 1A output car charger yesterday,I think it will do for both playbook and smartphone.

Blackberry devices are charged via USB (mini for older devices, micro for newer) which is a standard. Since it's an industry standard, you can't go wrong using chargers made to this specification.

this is not correct all the times:
I have a "Griffin Dual USB Car Charger PowerJolt". Will not charge my 9700, and not my playbook.

It probably will if you get the correct cable. I have the HipStreet BlackBerry car charging set and it chares all my devices. To charge the BlackBerry devices I have to use the supplied BlackBerry cable.

Right, but, there is no cable with it supplied. A standard usb to micro usb (blackberry) cable does not change anything,
That was what i intended to say.
A USB connector is a standard, but, if the device can be charged or not depends on other things.

Bes to test in a car when it is not running. That will prove if the charger is working or not.

a car has a 12 to 15 volt output that can be clean or dirty ( ac like spikes aka ripple )

My phone will not charge on my motorcylce unless at about 4000 RPM as the ripple on from charger circut is too high. when bike is not running it will charge fine too.

So it might not be the charger at all. it could be the alternator/charging circut in your vehicle.
