Hi All
I am now thinking of buying a 8700G from t-mobile in the UK and using it with my Orange SIM Card.
So does T-Mobile UK lock thier phones? Will they let me have the unlock coed?
Regards

All T-Mobile UK handsets are locked & customised, you will need to pay your subscription in full (12 or 18 month)then for a fee they will issue the code.Oh and Orange won't provide the BB service on your sim, unless of course its part of a corporate account with 50+ handsets and BES.

Basically have a company Orange Phone and Sim. The company I work for does Email hosting and Blackberry solutions. I can get the Blackberry account but not the phone.
So once I have got the phone I will need to do 2 things
1. Ask for the Blackberry service to be activated
2. Ask for the Change to be made on the SIM

So now you need to locate a unit 'sim free' as such. eBay is where I sold my 7230 after T-Mobile unlocked it,it seems BB units are few and far between on there, especially for the new 8700.Good luck.

What service needs to be activated in the SIM? Data Service? GPRS?

So TMO UK won't sell unlocked devices? And if a produt is TMO UK locked, will it work with TMO US (I'm guessing no)?

You'll need Blackberry BES or Web Client, currently only T-Mobile offer BB to consumers, whilst Orange,o2 and Vodafone are for business users only.

Most of the networks have all their stock branded heavily,no amount of factory resets will clear icon, fonts, bookmarks & browser customisation.Vodafone,Orange & T-Mobile units are definitely locked - can't speak for o2 though I notice the 8700 has been customised with o2's "Active" layout so I guess their 8700s will be locked too.
Whilst locking of Blackberry is known to be strict here, its not the same for standard/non BB handsets ,dealers sell both branded and vanilla stock, you just have to know who to buy from.
T-Mobile generally lock all their handsets but I have a T-Mobile UK 8700 and its not locked. Tested it with my other orange sim and was surprised at this but itd definately the case with my device not sure if its a one off or not.
However take note that orange dont offer BB Internet Mail you can only use redirector and BES and even thats only if you have a business account. They will not blackberry.net apn on consumer accounts.

My Orange SIM is from work on a Business contract so I should be able to get them to enable the Service

If I get an unlocked UK 8700g, will mytmobile.com (here in the US) allow me the register the handset?
I have enabled my orange sim with the blackberry.net apn, and tested it in my T-Mobile blackberry. Works well (as emails are sent to my pin irrespective of what sim I have)
But if you try and register the Blackberry via oranges Internet mail service www.blackberry.orange.co.uk - it wont allow you to register the device saying its not intended for this network.
If you find this to be not the case with your blackberry - by all means let me know.

Same here. Just tried an Orange SIM in my TMO (UK) prosumer 8700g and it worked. Or rather, it sort of worked. The phone works fine but it won't connect to the BlackBerry APN, obviously.
