I just switched from a Treo 650 to a BlackBerry 8700c (w/ Cingular) and am having some troubles. I was hoping some of you may be able to make a few suggestions.

Mostly I like the BB, but the email seems to be missing a few important features. Maybe I am just missing something here. My troubles come down to two things:

1) There does not seem to be a way to delete a message on the BB and have it also be deleted in my Outlook (or visa-versa). I use MS Outlook on my desktop and an Exchange server on the back end.

With my Treo, I used IMAP and had a menu choice to “Synchronize folders” when on the road. This made my desktop Outlook and the Treo identical. “Reconcile email” on the BB only seems to reconcile with the Cingular mailbox. I understand why this happening, but wonder what my options are. The Treo also synchronized my two inboxes (one on the Treo and one in Outlook) every time I did a local PIM synchronization.

The net net is that I have to manage two seperate inboxes now. Is there any way to get this done on the BB without the Enterprise server? Does the Enterprise server allow this?

2) When the Cingular application that gets email from my Exchange server, it sets the status of the email to “read”. So with this new system I no longer can see which emails I have read on my desktop or not. This would not be a problem on the road, but tough to give up while at my desk. Anyway to have the email fetched without setting its status to “read”.

Sorry for the long 1st post, but I had heard so much about how good the BB was at email, I was surprised it fell down on these (seemingly) basic functions. I am hoping I am doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

It's not simply Outlook & Exchange but rather Exchage+BES & Outlook in order to fully sync your BB.

So what you are saying, is that I need BES to make these issues go away...

Is there any 3rd party app that could help? Seems like a IMAP email client could do work. Anyone used Dynoplex eWorks for IMAP? Seems like this could solve the problems...

One possible solution is located on-line via the blackberry web client you use to manage your blackberry mail. If you log-on and click "profile" you'll find an "auto BCC" option to automatically send a copy of any emails you send to an email account of your choice.

I just have my outgoing blackberry emails sent to my business account and periodically add those to my "sent" folder in Outlook.

It means my office Outlook account is the "master" and my blackberry is the "slave". It also means that I can regularly delete all the email on my blackberry and not worry, because it's recorded somewhere else. It's worked well for me.

Hope this helps.
