hope everyone is in better mood now that this RIM/NTP matter is settled!

So 3 keys on my blackberry today started acting REALLY funky and started making all kinds of noise when pushing them... So I took it to the Cingular Store that I bought it from (within 30 days) and they said, no problem, bring us the box etc we'll give you a new one. OH, by the way, for 100 more you'd upgrade to the 8700... And I went hmmmmmmm, could someone please compare the 7290 and 8700 for me as to features, etc? I hope to do the trade-in tommorow so the sooner the better!

Thanks!

Search is your friend but since you've got a defective unit, and the difference is only $100, you might as well get the 8700.

Speakerphone, more memory, intel processor, edge enabled, etc... you may as well spend the extra $100 and get the 8700.

Take a look for yourself... http://www.discoverblackberry.com/devices/

The faster processor, better LCD and EDGE capability set it apart from the 7290.

8700 without any doubt. It is a huge leap forward in terms of BlackBerry - just in speed alone, but also screen and phone functions.

The 8700 is blazing fast. I love the fact that I have no lag time now. My biggest gripe with my 7290 was the lag time I experienced.

Go for 8700. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Well, you guys have me covinced. I've got the extra 100 laying around, so tommorow, it looks like I'm upgrading to the 8700!!!!!! I take it all dust issues have been settled with this device? Also, the OEM holster, it ok for day to day? I've used the OEM 7290 Holster and prefer that method. I'm just glad I havn't ordred my pro-clip system yet! I just hope this unit holds up well. The 7290 has just felt SOLID all the time. The display unit in the store still looks good and it probably gets picked up a hundred times more a day than I'll pick up mine!

Thanks guys, I was looking for user opinons on people who have gone from the 7290 to the 8700. All i'll have to do tommorwo is get my BES server password reset (EMM) and actually get the unit!

Yeah, the crackly keyboard on the 7290 really bothered because sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesnt.

I guess there is no way of transferring my pin to the new phone?

Check out my tips site to find lots of info on the 8700. You will love this device. Before you activate it go update to .284 and all the bugs will be gone. Have fun.

Bewarned the keyboard on the 8700 is a pain in the arse compared to the 7290, but if you only had it a few weeks it shouldn't be a massive headache.
