7100i Battery Indicator Problems

When I charge my Nexel Blackberry 7100i it seems to charge ok. But it will still indicate that the battery is dead even after letting it charge for a long period of time. However, if I remove and replace the battery and turn the BB on, the battery will be fully charge. Why is this?

I had the same problem a few times after removing and re-installing the battery. Take a pencil eraser and clean the contacts on the battery as well as the ones in the handset. This will normally do the trick.
