What are the benefits of 4.1?

In order to download it from the BB site you have to be part of the StarHub network...?

Is 4.1 worth worrying about it?

depends. it allows custom ringtones for your contacts, etc. there are other benefits. go look in the RIM Software sub-forum or simply search for '4.1' on here and you should get a good idea of what all is available on it.

and no, you don't have to be a StarHub subscriber to install it; although if you aren't really concerned with upgrading, i'd wait on your carrier to release their 4.1 OS, as it will have certain network modifications to the radio code that pertains to their network and all of its glorious quarks (although loading another provider's code shouldn't have any sort of negative impact on 95% or more of users).

* Please Note: This installation removes the Cingular 7100 series theme that was previously available in the CSL 4.1 installation, which was designed for the EDGE-based 7130 handheld due out shortly from RIM/Cingular.

I have downloaded the new 4.1 system software and installed it, but, when I open the Desktop Manager (which is version 4.1 also) it doesnt say there is new software available. How do I force an upgrade? I am stuck at 4.0.2.56. Thanks

when you go into the application, it should pop up auto.

I just loaded 4.1 on my 7100g. It's version .256 What will I gain by upgrading to this newer one? Is the new one multi-language?

Well it doesn't have the cingular icon screen. The new scren looks like a 8700 screen. I haven't had chance to play with it yet. But it did download the activation really fast.

Compare to the 4.1 csl .256 OS, I lost about 3MB of storage, and my 7105t feel more sluggish, but is a plus for me to surf chinese web site.

I'm stickin' with the .256. I just loaded it today and my 7100g is doing great. It was on 4.0blah.blahblah before so it's like having a new phone.....almost.

I have test almost everything but with the IM's (Instant Messengers) I don't get connected nether one: not AIM, not YIM, not MIM (MSN).
Any idea why I dont get connected?

Hey I just updated my 7100t. Im not sure what IM app you are using but I am using ramble. I could not connect either but its because I had to go back into my TCP settings and for the APN: enter in wap.voicestream.com. I am on TMO and I am not sure if this setting is the same for all carriers. But its a place to start.
