Does anyone know of a rental company that provides BlackBerry devices and service in Japan? I see Vodafone offers them for purchase, but I am going for about two weeks.

There is no BlackBerry service at all in Japan.

You may, however, use voice, SMS and data services whilst roaming there if you are a T-Mobile USA customer. I own a Nokia 6630 strictly for the purpose of Japan roaming.

so, I can't get my work email but I browse the internet, SMS and use the phone. Is that right? I was told the phone and data don't work at all.

thanks for the reply by the way.

Your BlackBerry device will not work at all unless you have 8707v, which I am almost positive you don't.

What will happen is, if you are a T-Mobile USA customer who has World Class service, is you will put your SIM card into an unlocked phone that has UMTS 2100 (also known as WCDMA 2100) hardware, and you will have access to telephone, SMS, and WAP browsing.

Got it, thanks for the information. I have a 7290. Has the 8707 even been released? Regardless I'll have to rent a phone while there. thanks a lot.

No, that's why I said I doubted you had one. :)

Anyway, if I were you, I would purchase a phone online before departing. Rentals are almost always crap.

This is a good choice:

Not at this point no... We're struggling to put the people we have right now to good use. I'm lucky that I'm possibly getting this Korea trip.

Why? She wants you at home all the time or something?

Please don't take offence, but you obviously didn't read. BlackBerry does not work in Japan. Period. That will change once the 8707v is available, but it is not, so for the time being, and the time when acollier will be in Japan, he will not be able to use a BlackBerry.
