verizon service 7130e.... do they charge each message sent via IM a text message? or is it like BBM and googletalk? and does anyone else have problems w/ the ramble AIM kicking them off?

It uses WAP which will eat up data even quicker than BlackBerry Messenger. If your going to use IM you better consider and unlimited data plan.

I use Ramble AIM and never get charged for a txt message b/c of it. It does kick me off every now and again, but i use it all the time and have not noticed a jump in my txt messages.

Ramble does not use text messaging. It does, however, use a good deal of data.

Check with Verizon, they may have a cap on their data?

I am a VZW customer and as long are you are on the 44.99 (with a Pplan of 39.99 or higher) or 49.99 for unlimited, VZW does not cap their data. if you are paying the 25 or 29 then you have 10 MB.

Verizon does not cap data usage. And if you're using an IM app, you shouldn't be charged for text messages. However, if you use AOL's IM forwarding feature (since AIM itself isn't available for the BlackBerry), that would use text messages.

Is Ramble the best and most reliable service for AIM on your BB?

Also, gdpmumin, can you explain this forwarding as text messaging, If i just download the app and run and IM, I wont be charged correct?

I'm not quite sure how it works because every time I try to set it up, the code they send to my phone is rejected by their service. But in theory it allows you to IM without a specific application. It just uses text messages. And yes, if use this method, you'll pay for the text messages. The better option would be to use Verichat, Webmessenger, or some other IM app. These apps use data, but not text messages. So assuming you have unlimited data, the only cost you'll incur is the app itself.

So Ramble uses up Text Messages?

Is there any free service for AOL IM that doesnt charge for text messages and is free?

No, Ramble does not use txt messages. It uses data at an alarming rate, but it does not use any txt messages.

Ok, so with unlimited data, that is no problem right?! :)

Correct. If you use an IM app, you'll be using data, not text messages. And as long as you have unlimited data, you're fine.

That is if you are with VZW, some other carriers cap their "unlimited" plans.

You need to follow the link in the email that Ramble sends you on your BB. It will download and install OTA.

I have Verizon with the unlimited data plan. When I receive messages when using Ramble they come to my phone as a text message and I am charged for the incoming text.

I have a 7105t and have the unlimited international data plan through T-Mobile. I am currently deployed to the middle east and it works great. I am using IM+ and have not had any problems with it or the built in chat program of the 7105t.
I did have issues when I was trying out verichat though.

You should not be charged any for any TXT messages when using Ramble. Ramble does not use txt messages. It does use a massive amount of data. What BB do you have?

did you shut your phone off since installing? if not, power it down and remove the battery for a few seconds then restart.

Check your Ramble IM settings. Under the options menu, Click "Ramble IM". Down towards the bottom under "network connection", make sure you're using the device TCP. Host is toc.oscar.aol.com:8080

I had the same problem when I 1st installed it
