I don't know whether anybody knows about this or not.
T-Mobile website is offering upgrade with or without a contract extension.

Compare
With 2 year extension
Upgrade
price: $349.99

Mail-In
Rebate: N/A

Total: $349.99

UPGRADE

Without any extension
$479.99

N/A

$479.99
UPGRADE

And then you pay sales tax accordingly.
By the way, I almost switched. I have a brand new unlocked cingular 8700c.
But, my service is with T-Mobile. I don't think I am going to move anytime soon. Do you think I should switch and sell my cingular BB?

Here's a note of caution, a sales monkey told me that if you order off the website and the product has problems, you can't take it to a store. I don't know how valid this is, but there you have it.

And the 2 year extension price of $350 should have a $50 rebate, taking you to $300.

.

You are correct if it was from a 3rd party like Venicomm or the like.

If you buy it from the T-Mobile website (www.tmobile.com (http://www.tmobile.com)) than it can be taken to a local store and serviced.

I upgraded through the website 2 days ago. Should have it in hand next week. Total cost was $299 after $50 rebate. Add in other fees taxes and it was $333. All for a 2 year upgrade.

Tell them that you have seen the Cingular offer for the free 8700. I did that yesterday, they told me the best they could do was $249. I called back before switching to Cingular to see if they could sweeten the pot with a Bluetooth headset, and the account services rep said she couldn't but she could do $199 with a two year controct...DEAL!

That's right. I had a different phone that I ordered over the phone with them and was able to take it to my local store and have a small issue resolved.

Of course, once again, retail monkey is wrong. Because I said specifically that I know of people who got the -g from TMO customer care and he said that if something went wrong I had to go through customer care and not the store. Ugh.

Why I even bother going into the store is beyond me sometimes!

Very interesting. I don't get paid until Monday. So, I will keep shopping for the best price until then. But, the 3 times I have taken my 7100t in for service, in 2 different states, the issue of where I made the purchase never came up. The reps in the store saw a T-Mo branded unit, with T-Mo service, and helped me as best they could. I have waited several months for the 'G' because it looks much better than the 'C'. RIM should have the bugs worked out by now. That's why they let Cingular beta test the 'C' model.
That's my 2 cents anyway.

Did they make you sign a 1 or 2 year contract?

I think he meant to say that $199 was the price AR (i.e. $250 w/ $50 rebate), I believe those are for 2 year contracts.

What did you have to say to the retention dept to get that kind of deal?
