Is there any way to turn the backlight completely off !? Even when I'm in greatly lit areas the light stays on , I know we can turn the brightness down but even with that the screen backlight is always on and takes away from the battery life. That's my only complaint , so if one of you knows any tricks can u pls help me out , thxs

The closest thing I got to off was setting the brightness to 0. But if anyone else has a solution please let me know.

Use the OEM holster, or an aftermarket model, that has the sleeper magnet. When the magnet gets in the right spot the screen turns off.

Do you ever really want the backlight completely off even in bright light? I would think that would take away from the vibrant color of the 8700 screen.

Thanks , but tht doesn't really help me out .. I don't carry a holster , my BB stays inside my front pants pocket and tht would be annoying to carry a holster to turn a light off , is there any other way possible .. I need a answer tht wks in the device ..

Yes .. I would like the option of adjusting it off and on .. Dnt get me wrong I love the screen but @<hidden> certain points the light isn't needed when there is a incredible amt of light outside.. We should be able to control it .. And unfortunately it does use battery life ..

I think you need a 7290 for what you want, or if screen brightness has become a life or death matter, when you are using quite possibly the best handheld ever sold to mankind!

Does BBLight work on the 8700? If so that might be an option.

Try pressing the on/off button when the screen is on. Depending on whether you're at max brightness, the screen will either brighten or go dark.

That's what I do - if I am unhappy with the brightness of the 8700, I hit the power button on top to adjust it.
