Insurance on what? Your shipment? That'll be UPS/USPS/whomever you picked to ship. Insurance on the device, should you purchase the insurance plan, will be from TMO.

Some one else did that at my store this week. Returned two Razrs because it was free after 6 mos. I said, "good luck trying to get the rebate then".

I hear enough about people having rebate issues after 6-8 weeks. I can't imagine waiting 35 + weeks for a rebate! "Yea...I bought a phone almost a year ago and I never got my rebate."

Amazon rebates are actually very easy now.

Amazon Rebate Service
At Amazon.com, our focus is always on the customer, and that's why we're committed to helping you get your rebate. Our rebate procedures and forms are easy to understand and complete--no gimmicks, no tricks. We do all the leg-work with the carriers for you so you don't have to remember to send in forms six months after you purchase. Here are the top three things customers love about Amazon rebates:

- When you receive your product, you can submit and track your Amazon rebates online at www.rebateshq.com/amazon-rebates
- You typically receive your Amazon rebate check within 12-15 weeks of purchase
- No stamps, envelopes, copies, UPCs or sending us your personal cell phone bills!

I buy telco for my company and Amazon is my primary source for handsets. Zero problems and 100% of my rebates have come back.

What does that have to do with this deal?

coreyg510
04-26-2006, 10:33 PM
It has to do with the deal because the deal involves the rebates, one of the BIGGEST complaints I get at my store from customers who have bought from sites such as Amazon, Wirefly, ect.

You may be committed to getting the customer their deal and I commend you on that, but until the day arrives that customers stop complaining about their rebates never showing up and their accounts not being totally jacked, I will continue to warn customers about purchasing through companies such as Amazon or Wirefly.

I dont think you understand the frustration that can be built up by having to deal with a customer that is pissed because they got their phones and they cant use them because the wrong features were added or the features they did need were not added or the billling and area codes were wrong along with the last four social on an account. I am not directly attacking you or Amazon. Please do not think that I am.

I instead am directly attacking all internet sellers. Customers generally have no idea what they need and when you put the decisions in the customers hands or in the hands of someone who isnt proactively asking the customer what they need, your gonna run in to problems more often than not.

I could go on, but I will rest my fingers for a minute

Just got back from a TMO retail store where a friend of mine just picked up the 8700g. He was able to use the Amazon advertisement to get the price down to $49.99 (with a 2 year agreement).

They ended up giving him a discount on the phone, and a rebate, and a $100 credit on his first invoice.

So......

As mentioned in other threads, deals can be made at the retail location. Just be sure to have your game plan (and any backup documents) before walking into one of their stores.

It depends. At most retailers, you have to return the phone before you can cancel the account within Cingular's 30 day cancellation policy. Chances are that Amazon is the same way. You dont return the phone, you keep the account. Otherwise, I am sure there would be plenty of people doing that (buying a phone and canceling before the ETF hits).

Hello,

When I go to Amazon.com and add the 8700g to my cart with a service plan, the only option I have is a two-year contract (which I try to avoid at all costs). Has anyone been successful signing a one-year contract or know how to do it on Amazon?

Thanks

i bought an 8700c for my wife on amazon. she had the unit for 14 days and decided to return it (for a treo 650..hmmmmm) I called cingular and they cancelled the account. (this was a 2 months ago) I told them I was going to return the blkbry to amazon. I called amazon and told them I want to return it. they gave me a hard time and wanted me to pay for shipping back. I refused. I told them Ill send it back to them after they call me with a fedx number to use. they never called me back. So I have a new $150 8700c at my house now. :)
i also aplied online for the rebate the first week I got it. It says in process but I'm sure it will get denied now that we cancelled the number. But if I get money back in a couple of months I will let u guys know!

for the record.. I called cingular last week and confirmed the line was closed. I just had to pay for a prorated bill.

I only see 1 year contract on Amazon so I called them and they say they don't resell this phone with 2 year contract.
They also told me that I might be able to get T-Mobile to change the agreement after I get the phone and the 150$ Amazon rebate will still work.

Wish me luck !

I just got mine a few days ago. Originally it was $300 before rebates, but I called Amazon and they adjusted the price.

If the Amazon rebate does not go through you still get a 8700g under a one year contract for $150 shipped (T-Mobile $50 rebate).

subodhgupta - As far as not having free nights/weekends you can change your plan after you get the phone. Realize the BB Minutes and Mail plans offer unlimited text messaging and if you move to a standard rate plan with nights/weekends you would lose the free texts and get 400 less minutes....for the same price.

Bought the phone, and called Amazon when I received shipment.
They said that they only resell Tmobile phones with 2 year contracts and that you will not be eligible for $150 rebate if you change to a 1-year contract with T-Mobile.
Also, when you purchase the phone, the price offered has to be with a 'compatible rate plan' where you're only able to select a 2-year (at least when I bought it).

In my opinion it really is not worth the time. You'll wait for the rebate and it may never come. I've dealt with rebates before and sometimes they come, sometimes they don't. You ask if they were ever mailed out and the company tells you yeah, it was mailed out on such and such date. Just not worth the bs if you have to wait 35 weeks.

First post here guys and I am a rep. You know, we price match now with our indirect dealers. If you take an ad in a corporate store with the price of the blackberry from a dealer, that store will give you that price. It's T-Mobiles new pricematch gurantee. And me personally I wouldn't activate with anyone other than T-Mobile corporate now if I were any of you especially with that deal. The problem with dealers is if you cancel service you more than likely have to pay them full price for the phone if you dont return it.

Btw: Just wanna say thanks to the guys postin all the help/tricks/tips. I did quite a bit to my 8700 already without even asking, just using the info here.

Great news! Thanks for the tip. I will be going to my local t-mobile store tomorrow with the Amazon printout in hand!

Amazon's price is back up to $199. There are $200 worth of rebates ($50 from T-Mobile and $150 from Amazon). What is the price match policy with respect to rebates? I will be activating the 8700 with the 39.99 BlackBerry Enterprise plan. Thanks!

Same was true for me....my 8700g was free...I did not even pay for shipping! Also, when I received the phone I called T-Mobile and they ported my existing phone number over in less than an hour. It was painless and the phone did not cost me a penny. The rate plan has to be $39.95 or higher I believe so a data plan only would not qualify anyway...and it has to be a new account.

I went to T-mobile today and purchased an 8700.

I showed them the print out of the amazon deal and they started freaking out. All the employees ran over to look at it. The guy I was dealing with said there was no way he could match it, but he would talk to his manager. He came back and said that the manager told him the $200 from amazon were "amazon dollars". I asked if he could then match the $199 price. He talked to his manager again and they sold me the phone for $275 - $50 rebate, so for a total of $225.

I figure that's not bad. I really didn't want to have to go through amazon to get my phone, I was really hoping that I could just get them to cut a deal with the amazon thing in their face.

sooo ...success!!

Well, very very long story short. I tried the retail stores first and none of them would do any price matching. The customer service reps wouldn't match at all either to Amazon or Blackberry. I almost managed to convince Tmobile that a 9 (yes,NINE) year customer was just as valuable as new customers who can get a free phone from Amazon or Blackberry +free accessories (Blackberry was offering $100 worth at their online store). First, over the phone, I got their customer retention department to agree to sell me the phone at $199.99 and issue me a credit for $39.99 for a month of voice service - I told them I would take it. Then I got the call from the Executive supervisor a day or so later (cause I had called their corporate offices) who offered me what I thought was another $100 of credit for all the trouble I had. Great, thought I - they are taking care of me like a valuable customer now - I was feeling really good about T-Mobile again, the phone is only costing me $60!! Then I get the bill. They issued be credits totaling $100 off the phone price of $249. I was furious. I called the customer service department and basically accused them of not honoring their word. There was no arguing with their reps - they are powerless and/or unwilling to help. I called the Executive supervisor back this morning and he agreed to issue me another credit for $40. So, they issued me credits totalling $140 off of $249.99, so I walked away with the phone for $110 w/ two year contract. Not too bad - I just think it really sucks that existing, long time customers get the shaft - especially with as much money as I have spent on service over the years with them! I got the phone about a week-and-a-half ago and am very happy with it, wouldn't go back to the 7290 I had before! Incidently, I like the 8700g design the best, and the only reason I didn't switch carriers was because no one can match TMobile's rate plans.

Amazon's back to having the 8700g for free after rebates with a two-year commitment; can I use this if I'm an active TMobile subscriber? Meaning, if I buy it on Amazon and give my current number (I'v finished the 1 year commitment on my current account), will they transfer my number over and cancel the old account?

My 7100t died 15 days after the warranty ran out, so I'm looking to replace it with the 8700g. I'm not thrilled with paying $300/year for a functioning phone, which is all TMobile customer care could offer me.
