Between this and the CSL (Hong Kong) - 4.1.0.300/4.1.0.292 release "7100C_PBrER4.1.0_rel300_PL1.8.0.143_A4.1.0.292_CSL.exe" the only difference i can see is the software platform. Anyone know what the difference is in usability or speed from this?

Speed?

In all reality the Cingular 4.1 is rel314 in comparison to HK rel300

7290E_PBr4[1].1.0_rel314_PL1.8.0.144_A4.1.0.292_Cingular.exe
7290C_PBrER4[1].1.0_rel300_PL1.8.0.143_A4.1.0.292_CSL.exe

I just put it on my phone, maybe it will stop my random disconnects.

Does carrier released 4.1 on a 7290 enable EDGE?

Nope, I believe edge uses different hardware......I think

The 7290 is not EDGE capable. GPRS only.

Question. If I am running HK v.300 right now and using the zen theme when I load the new cingular os (I am a cing customer) do I need to delete the vendor file and rename the blackberry file and unzip the other file and all that jazz like I always have before when upgrading my bb os? All I want is the new OS and the zen theme.

Dobson is out with their 4.1 as well. "Dobson 4.1" (https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=F340F1B1F65B6DF5B5E3F94D95B11DAF)

Got a strange issue after upgrading to this on my Cingular 7100g from the Hong Kong CSL version. It seems like my data connection is all screwy. Web sites are timing out, it took over an hour for the enterprise activation, was all working fine before the upgrade. Anyone else having issues? I'm gonna try to nuke it and try again.

Still having same issue after nuking and reloading again from scratch with the Cingular version downloaded from blackberry.com. Anyone have any ideas? This thing is driving me nuts!

Zen isn't included with the OS, so you may want to mention that they'll still need to download it from the thread I posted.

The first time I was at work and used the BB Manager App for BES to nuke it. When I tried it again last night from home I used javaloader to wipe it. Same results. I downgraded it this morning to the 4.0 Cingular load and it is still doing the same thing. Is it possible that having that Hong Kong CSL image on it screwed something up and is not allowing it to work with the Cingular load? I will try reloading the HK CSL image later this morning if I can't get this working to see if that still works.

I used your HK .300 alx file when I loaded the new cing os last night. All is well, zen works fine. I probably should have waited on you to do your thing. I'm so impatient. If I unzip your newest alx file and replace the HK file will my BB recognize it as an upgrade when I sync and run app loader?

Likely not. They are the same version of the Apps, so unless something changed from one version to the other (Chinese to English, etc), then it should have everything there.

Just thought I'd update in case anyone else runs into a similar problem. FWIW, Cingular "tech" support is next to worthless. I went rounds with a lady on the live chat where she kept asking me to check with my BES administrator to have them assign an activation password (I am the BES administrator for my company, and I was just trying to get the internet browser to work without being connected to the BES at all). I finally fixed it myself, though I'm not sure how or why this worked.

Previously my BB would bounce between Cingular and another local carrier's networks (I Wireless). I had noticed that since I had started seeing the problem that my BB had not been on the I Wireless network, so I forced it to change networks and everything started working. I then set the network selection back to automatic and it immediately switched back to the Cingular GPRS network, but everything still worked. Has been working like a champ ever since.

I had this exact problem through February and March. I solved it on my own the same way. I thought I posted about it, but after searching, I realized I only have e-mail correspondence with RIM support staff (I was finally escalated).

Anyway, I hadn't heard anything for 2 weeks, so I gave this a try last month. Here is my last e-mail to them (03Apr06).

You may close this issue as resolved after 2 months.

I don't know if it's due to any efforts on your part today.

My 7290's network detection is set on automatic and when it lost the Cingular signal this afternoon, it switched to iWireless (a T-Mobile affiliate). When I noticed the switch I tested my Internet Browser, WAP Browser, and Google Local connections. They all worked!

My device has since switched back to Cingular and all still works.

I did wipe the device yesterday and checked the browsers, before restoring my data and application. Nothing was working correctly then, so I do not understand what has changed when the device switched networks.

It would have be nice to know what troubleshooting/resolution we can learn from this experience.

Thank you,
Steve

Painless upgrade, thanks for the info. Just an FYI for others, it took about 40 mins to complete (I did a backup/restore during the update) and I also noticed that it took about 40 mins for the "new" Activation. Obviously you need to be connected for the first part. The Activation occurred while it was disconnected, and I could still use the BB for other things.

Have noticed some differences in the apps, like extra options dotted around here and there, compared to the .300 version. But the biggest improvment is a memory/cache cleaner.

I also successfully upgraded my 7100g to Cingular's v4.1 though it was not perfectly smooth. (I had previously installed the CSL v4.1.). Here's what happened:

1. The upgrade process failed to Restore my various settings. Fortunately I had manually Backed up just before the upgrade and was able to manually Restore.

2. I had to force a Service Book download (via BIS). Until I did this, I had no browser.

3. I had to manually input the WAP configuration info again.

4. I had to manually remove and reinstall Google Maps.

I started a new thread Accidental Downgrade? (http://blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?p=240853#post240853) which maybe should have just been tacked onto this one. It's about how installing the new Cingular OS, then trying to restore my address book (which didn't restore during install for some reason) seems to have downgraded me somehow.

I may have dodged this bullet. I tried to restore my settings for pocket day, and was asked if I wanted to upgrade (what?). It seems that the default "upgrade" was to 4.0.xx, and I had to do something to get the 4.1 that I'd just installed. I stopped and did everything manually. I don't want to reupgrade and have to get my pocket day liscense turned on again.
