I have read a couple of posts indicating that the physical build of the 8700c is more robust and sturdy than the 8700g. Can anyone confirm that this is really true? I assumed that all 8700 models would be the exact same hardware and built alike. Just the superficial things like branding, colors, and themes would be different.

Thanks!

I checked out an 8700g the other day and I though just the opposite.

Get out of here Dude,
I've owned both an 8700c and an 8700g. And after 1 week with the 8700c, I had dust issues and it overall felt cheap.

After the initial "new gadget" wow factor has diminished on the 8700c I felt like I coughed up $350 for something that was a 2 cent factory rejected design for pocket calculators circa 1982.

The 8700g is not what I'd say as being more "robust" since we are NOT comparing thankgiving day turkeys here, but it is definately much better designed.

While the Taiwan-made 10 cent plastic shell case and cheapo keypads are definately shared between the two devices, I like that the 8700g is a darker color case so any of the inevitable markings and scrapes that will eventually plague these smartphones will be better hidden on the 8700g than it will for the 8700c.
Also the 8700g is more sculpted/rounded and less square and geeky looking than the 8700c.

These are just my honest opinions based on OWNING both these phones! I didn't hang out at the cingular/t-mobile stores and played with the dummy phones or held the store models in my hands for a few seconds before procuring my thoughts on why the 8700g is better than the 8700c in aesthetics.

I would definately admit that the Treo (my bestfriend owns one) and the older 7290s(I've owned every color screen Blackberry ever made) are much much more sturdier and beefier (for lack of not saying "Robust") smartphones than the fragile 8700 series.

At the end of the day, I do look at my 8700g and think silently to myself that it is the best looking thing I've ever made a phone call on.

For the first time I am considering moving to a Treo 700W with Goodlink.

I have used a BB since 1999-2000

I think RIM is going backwards in their construction of devices.

I agree with this guy! Like every rags to riches tech start up in the last 10 yrs that became a hit at the turn of the century, the RIM company has shifted from quality to quantity.

But a Treo. I don't know, those bulky treo antenna knobs would drive me crazy!

And Verizon has the best Treo out there now. I'm not going to go to verizon for a cellphone.

I'm also in the camp that the 8700 g/c doesn't have that jewel-quality build like an iPod or Treo. And while the bulk of my decision is driven by cosmetics, in this instance, function trumps form. What I've seen of the Treo's and other Windows-powered smartphones is enough to thwart me from joining their reset-plagued ranks.

Have you considered the Treo 700p that'll be released on the 15th? At least that's Palm-driven so it might have better stability? Apparently it'll show up on both Verizon & Sprint and run EV-DO.

This 700p that you speak of, will there be one for T-Mobile? or one that is unlocked?

No mention other than cdma-carriers Sprint & Treo. Cingular has the 650 but I don't think T-Mobile has carried Treos in quite some time.
