I have a corporate phone that syncs for email via BES and have a question about how this works.

When I'm browsing from the phone does it go through the corporate network at all or is it purely a carrier network path? Secondary question is whether the company can monitor or control browsing of certain sites.

I have also set up to have some personal email accounts monitored using the Blackberry internet email site provided by my carrier. Can my employer monitor email from those accounts?

Depends on which browser you're using. The Blackberry Browser does pull pages via your company's BES/MDS.

I ended up with two broswers on my phone. One is just labeled "Browser" and the other is labeled "CompanyName Browser". I suppose both would could through BES?

What if I use a non-BB browser?

I guess I am wondering if there is any privacy at all when using the BB device with BES.

The browser does not go through the BES. The CompanyName browser will, and must be used for intranet sites, etc.
