I am switching from a 7100t to a 7100i and I don't see an icon for aim. Would it be on the install disc or, do I need to install it from a third party? Also, any feedback anyone can give me on how happy or unhappy they are with this version I would greatly appreciate.

no it does not come with AIM. Yahoo messenger was released by RIM. You will need to get 3rd party software ie. IM+, berryvine and others I cannot remember.

Ramble
VeriChat
The other one (NetMessenger?)

The first one is free, and is a native client -- it connects directly to AIM's Oscar servers. Therefore, the client is free (though, as SRA notes, not Open Source), and there is no annual service fee.

The latter two are both proxied clients -- they talk to a central server somewhere, which then in turn keeps your session up with whichever chat network you want to talk to (Ramble is AIM only).

Because they have to put the proxy *somewhere*, and pay for it's connection, both are commercial products, and charge an annual fee.

The fee isn't that bad, honestly; I'm trying out Verichat and Ramble right now, to see if it's worth it (since I'm an AIM-only guy).

You OTA downloaded it onto your handheld?

It's icon is a leaning yellow triangle with a blue circle labeled IM on it.

Thank you. I had downloaded it once but it looks like I had to delete and reinstall. Thanks for the help...
