After trying to login 10 times to my Blackberry, my 7520 locked up, and now I can't get to the menus or anything. The screen only displays some weird icon with the numbers 570 underneath it. My desktop manager can't even connect to it. Looks like the 7520 won't allow anyone in. I thought leaving the battery off would reset the unit, but it doesn't. Is there a way to hard reset this unit without taking it to a service center? Is there something like a key code I need to punch in since there isn't a reset button?

This isn't a Palm; there is no Hard Reset function.. You've successfully wiped out the application data and the operating system. This thread - http://www.blackberryforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2412 - will help you reload the OS.

I think they may believe it was stolen.

How do you screw up a password 10 times?

Some guy at work did it. He has been publicly and thoroughly humiliated. But he did it.

And yes, it could be stolen. And if the IMEI was reported to the carrier, it won't be much use to anyone.

Thanks to NJBlackberry, newbie like me figured it out. I was able to reload the Blackberry 4 OS and it works like new again. Thanks again for the help.

Just got the unit yesterday, and I never knew the password. I know better now....

Just remember.... it is a safety feature.

Business and governments (heavy users of BlackBerry) need the BlackBerry to protect the information well. That's why it self-destructs its own memory (erases itself) if you enter the password wrong 10 times.

This is always recoverable by the original organization (As long as the device is not reported stolen) simply by a BlackBerryOS reinstall.
