View Full Version : BAD Battery icon

I recently bought a 12v car charger from eBay listed for the 7100i --

it also came with a battery.

after putting the battery in my 7100i it immediatly popped up a bad battery icon on the screen - that I never saw before. it was a battery with a diagonal line going throught it.

I plugged it into my AC charger for awhile thinking it was just dead/flat but after an hour or so... nothing changed.

so as not to take any chances I pulled it out and put my original battery back in.

I measured the voltage on the battery and compared it to my working battery, the old one mesured 4.1volts the new on measured 3.6volts

the battery is clearly marked for a motorola 7100i and appears to be brand new, it was in sealed plastic.

any ideas?

you said it was marked for a motorola 700i? not a RIM/BlackBerry 7100i?

perhaps motorola has a phone that they made w/ the same model #. or someone misslabled the battery as a scam

I believe Blackberry has a kind of locking feature for it's batteries. In the manual, it tells you to only use BB brand batteries (which every phone does, but that can be overcome) but it also says it must have the lock symbol on battery. I don't know how they can lock a phone to only use a certain battery but it seems they might have. Look at your factory battery, mine says C-2S with a locked lock symbol.

The 7100i battery is different then the other 7100. The battery that you need is a C-S2

The model battery is one thing, but what about the locking feature with the picture of a lock. Is it true that blackberries can be locked to a specific battery?

Yes, the 7100i is built to accept a certain battery which is secured.
