Verizon recommends their customers update the PRL every month. Why is today anything special from the regular monthly updates? Not trying to question the necessity of the original post; genuinely curious.

Interesting, so I think what we are seeing, is not really that a PRL verison is a function of the device you are using but your location.

Now, I wonder what would happen if you leave your home area and go elsewhere and then update to that areas PRL, or is your ability to update the PRL dependent upon your HOME area, not your current location?

No that is not the case since both you and I are iN Bergen county NJ. Neither is the device because even though you and I have different devices, you and whsbuss have identical devices. Though you are in NJ and he is in PA. I think its luck of the draw or maybe tower related, or just simply server related if too much traffic comes in at one time you get routed elsewhere, and in my eyes the differences have to be minor otherwise it would not be happening the way it is.

EDIT- Just for the heck of it I tried updating it again to see if I got the 50539 and it di not, it left it as 50537 after saying it had updated it again successfully.

I did the update in a different area within my service area (10 miles away) and still have 50537. I believe the PRL is determined by your service area. I'm located just outside Phila proper.

Yes and even though I am in Bergen county I work in Flanders near PA.

The PRL is determined by your device and plan, not your location. Although it is possible that one location gets an older PRL for a while, it doesn't take more than 24 hours for the PRL to go nationwide.

It goes as such, from BlackberryForums:
ACI, non-EVDO -- 50514
ACI, EVDO -- 50537
ACII, non-EVDO -- 50516
ACII, EVDO -- 50539

ACI is the America's Choice 1 plan, which a plan from before 02/21/05, and it allows roaming, but with charges. ACII is the America's Choice 2 plan, which is from after 02/21/95, and it allows roaming, though less-so than ACI, but there are no charges.

Some people are still on the same calling plan for over 11 years? Then I realized, wait, I'm one of them? Man, time is just slipping me by.

Seriously though, thanks for the explanation.
