I've never owned a Blackberry b/f and am ready to make the leap. I'm on Verizon and want to stay that way. Any opinions on whether I should pick up the BB 7250 now or wait for the 8700 to (hopefully) come out on Verizon?

Also, does anyone know if I will be able to get real-time email from my Yahoo account?

Thanks for the advice

I use a 7250. It's a great device. It does not have as much memory, a speakerphone or as bright a screen as the 8700. Hoewever it's keyboard is much, much better, it's screen is way better in full sunlight and it is probably the most durable bb ever built. Go for it!

7250 is a great device, EV-DO is also far superior in speed over EDGE but the GSM carriers won't admit to it. Yes it lacks some of the jazz of the 8700 but the build quality is far superior which seems to have been an after thought by RIM on the 8700. Either way as long as your paking a BB it's a win, win situation!

If you really want to get a blackberry, then if go for it and not wait for the 8700 series. It may be next year before it is released. Yet, I don't work for verizon and wouldn't have any specific knowledge on that. The suretype of the 7100 series is okay but it takes some use to becoming familiar with it. Either you hate the suretype of you love it. I've always found that the suretype is okay but I tend to personally prefer the full keyboard. I have gsm and I agree that the evdo speed is faster. All in all the choice is yours but if go for the bb now if I wanted it. Good luck in your decision.

I have a Verizon Wireless 7250 and absolutely love it. In addition to the xxx@<hidden> address for the device, you can have up to ten additional addresses. I have my Gmail, Fastmail and Yahoo accounts working on the device. On the Yahoo acount, you must purchase the Yahoo Plus service ($20/year) to obtain POP email client capability, but the email is delivered in real time. (Do a search: numerous threads on this...)

Also, see this forum re Yahoo & RIM announcing additional Yahoo features on Blackberries:

Verizon does not have the 8700 yet, if you do not travel overseas Verizon in my opinion has the best coverage. That having been said, I would say get the 7250 now, I have one, with the EVDO and full keyboard it is great and indispensable to me. WHen the 8700 is released by Verizon and you allow it enough time to get the kinks ironed out you will be ready and wanting to do the upgrade.

I asked myself some similar questions recently:

The 8700 series is THE best Blackberry device available. EVDO is nice, but still has patchy coverage. Verizon should be coming out with an 87xx unit within the next month or two and I'm almost positive it will support EVDO. I think they're just waiting for all the hype around the Q to die down before introducing it. I've seen the 7250, and it's very nice compared to the "regular" earlier Blackberries, but the 87xx series is a whole new beast.

Personally, I would wait.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Even though the 7250 looks like it is about to be discontinued by VZW to make room, I would guess, for a new BB model (I'm basing this on the fact that VZW stores aren't carrying the 7250 anymore and the VZW website has it marked down to only $99), I think I'm still going to get one. It sounds like a great piece of equipment and I just don't have the patience to wait for a new model to maybe come out (besides, I think VZW will at least wait till after they roll out the Moto-Q and the hype from it has died down b/f introducing a new BB model).

Thanks again

I was about to suggest this model because of the 7130e but good luck on the decision.
