Degrading battery life

After 2 months with my 8700g, I'm suddenly finding battery life dropping by an extra 15% to 20% per day. I've started using GoogleTalk, but the battery life drop didn't start immediately after I installed this app.

I wonder if it's because I'm in the UK and we've just started to get sunny weather - and the backlight is running flat out in the brighter ambient light?

Anyone else ever seen any correlation between lower battery life and sunnier climes?

That is a plausible explanation. Have you tried turning down the backlight intensity as a test?

I dont know how plausible the sunshine/battery correlation is..but your battery might be heading south =( it happens....you can pick up an extra off ebay for like $10 amaerican so like 6 pounds for you, mate =)

I already run it at "10" (lowest setting). If i switch off the auto control, it will rather defeat the object :-)

I hope not! After just 2 month's use of only dropping ~ 15% a day, that would make it a rather faulty battery...

do you run bluetooth also? if so, that definitely depletes your battery at a faster rate...might turn it off when not in use...

I do.

Bluetooth + Google Talk. I was getting ~ 15% drop (to 85%) a day from fully charged.

Now getting drop to ~ 65%. Just trying to figure out what's changed to cause this...

Reception can affect battery life as well.

It seems that the process of discharging and charging a Lithium polymer battery is still up for debate.

It absolutely worked for me, even a few weeks after I had already been using my 8700g. I read a bunch of threads where people were saying they were getting as high as ten days without charging. I did the process of charging and de-charging and charging again, and I picked up as much as 12 more hours out of my battery.

I've done it also but with pocketday and about 20-30 e-mails a week and maybe about 5-10 short phone calls my battery lasts no longer than 5-6 days if I let it drain to probably 25%. One thing with Lithium polymer batteries is that you shouldn't let it drop too much. I try to recharge whenever I am below 50%.

I've looked for the thread and can't find it. I just upgraded my blackberry from 7100 to 8700g. Unfortunately, my battery won't even last a day. I know there's a way to extend my battery, but I can't find any information on it 8-) . Can someone please post the process? Is it as easy as letting the battery drain and then recharge it?

Pretty much all you have to do is discharge and charge your battery three times. Then you should go about your regular charging routine making sure not to totally discharge the battery to often.

One thing with Lithium polymer batteries is that you shouldn't let it drop too much

Winston's policy on battery treatment is a very good point. Think of Lithium Ion batteries as car batteries, if they get totally drained to often, they will never perform to their full potential.

I was already starting to see my battery indicator drop by noon with minimal use a few days ago. My 8700 is almost new. I removed the battery and put it back in and it solved my problems.
