So does anyone know if there is a software upgrade or anything to use the 8700c's custom button for Push to Talk?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.1)

Thats not what I have heard from a lot of people in and around Cingular, maybe they are all wrong but from what I have heard it is coming Q4.

Unless you have some new info to add to the pot......

I talked to our corp sales person this week and she said a firmware release is coming in a month or so to enable PTT on the 8700

I just wonder why Cingular would go backwards in? I mean, they just released the 7130. So why not make it PTT, rather than having to release an update for it? Seems kinda odd to me. Especially with the buzz going around about the 8100. Why even bother updating the firmware for the 8700. If Cingular does decide to carry the 8100, the 8700 will become old news quick.

Last I heard in the Cingular circles, there was no definate plan to release PTT on the BB.

I TOTALLY disagree..the 8100 doesn't appeal to me at all....Alot of people can't have cameras on their phones anyway due to security. Plus I can't believe they got rid of the scroll wheel and replaced it with a friggin JOYSTICK? The thing looks like a Motorola Slvr with blackberry capabilities.....

Now if they came out with an 8700 with a camera, then I would bite lol....i enjoy my full qwerty keyboard and reliability too much. At work I still push the 8700 over the 7130 because of its proven reputation....

Just my 2 cents!

Agreed. I understand what The Gecko is saying, and from a sales/marketing perspective, it makes sense. But from a user's perspective, I wouldn't mind having a camera, media player, etc, in the 8700 "wrapper". In the 8100? No thanks. Suretype? Joystick? Now, IMO, *that's* a move backwards.

And for some people in some industries they Company may want you to have a camera, i know thats why mine started to go to the Treo's because people in the field had access to a camera and email all the time to send real time info around to others. There are good and bad things with everything I hope RIM pushes forward with both options to maximize super strict gov't and private sector accounts as well as consumer/more open private sector accounts.
