View Full Version : Yahoo accounts and Upgrade to BIS 2.1

It's been a very frustrating few days. Yahoo integration had slowed to a snail's pace. Sometimes emails came in a few minutes, sometimes 15, sometimes it took hours. It used to take seconds.

I noticed that Rogers upgraded to BIS 2.1 (the new icons appeared on my 8700.) My sent emails from my 8700 on my Yahoo account were integrating immediately into the Sent box on Yahoo webmail. But incoming emails were still taking forever.

So I tried something....

I deleted my Yahoo account on BIS. (I also went to delete the Yahoo Service Book on my Blackberry but it wasn't necessary; it had disappeared once I deleted the Yahoo account on BIS.) Then I signed up to integrate anew my Yahoo account on BIS.

What a difference!!! I just did three consecutive tests sending an email to Yahoo from another account. The first two were essentially received immediately on my 8700. So I timed the third one: about 9.5 seconds from Send to receive on my Blackberry. I call that real time.

If anyone else is having issues recently with the speed of Yahoo integration, I strongly recommend deleting your account on BIS and signing up again. It made a big difference for me.

No go with Cingular Yahoo! integration as of this post. I had to create a standard POP access account after deleting and attempting to re-create a Yahoo! account.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Cingular still won't support it for some reason. They need to hey their heads on straight.

I'm afraid that my discovery won't help with Cingular. But for service providers that have Yahoo integration, I think that deleting your Yahoo account from BIS 2.1 and then signing up anew can make a big difference.

So Yahoo! with Cingular is still a no go unless you pay for forwarding from Yahoo.....damn.....I am still not paying for it......I am Gmail all the way until something changes.

What would make real difference is deleting your blackberry account and creating it again. Customer support can do it for you.

Deleting email address from account will only bring temporary relief, or not at all.

Not to hijack this thread but since there you guys use yahoo, maybe you can answer a quick question. I did a search but came up empty.

I don't use html based email but I'm interested in going to it. How do I get all my email off the server and onto my local harddrive? For my msn account, OL treats it just like my local pst files and I can use it directly from OL. I like that because if I don't have a net connection I can still read/respond to email. Also, I can easily move the messages to a local hard drvie and off the server. Any ideas?

Yahoo push to a BlackBerry is supported using both FREE and paid Yahoo accounts on most carriers. For some reason, Cingular doesn't support Yahoo push.
