I have been having a huge problem with my 7290. Of course i am still running version 3.8 because that is all cingular is offering at the momement, but recently within the first 2 minutes of most calls, sometimes 10 seconds, i can still hear the other person but they cannot hear me. Has anyone found a solution to this other then upgradeing to 4.0 because that option will not be available untill cingular stops being lazy.

Can't answer the random silence your experiencing but it may be a defective device? If you want to load 4.0 you can the following version from Hong Kong CSL works just fine, http://1010.hkcsl.com/jsp/biz_1010solution/biz_1010solution_1010office_bb_e_help_support_downloads.jsp or see Mark R's thread about 4.0 I'm sure other carrier versions of 4.0 will also work on your Cingular 7290 http://www.blackberryforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1995

i remember reading at one time that there was a problem with the mute function on the 7290s using version 3.8 and that is what it seems like is happening, i can hear the other person but they cant here me... i tried using the HK version but the browser wouldent work because i am not using BES so i switched back

It happens to my fiancee's 7290. When it starts happening, pop the battery out and restart the puppy. Solves the problem for a short period of time.

thank you for the tip, but would that mean that its a software problem or a hardware problem because if it is the later cingular should send me a different phone allthogether...do all users with 7290 running version 3.8 have this problem?? or does 4.0 fix it?

I have heard that 4.0 doesn't exhibit this issue, but I'm not about to find out until Cingular officially supports 4.0 (I won't touch her 7290 after she didn't like what I did to this computer :-P Of course I didn't either....).

Many people have had this problem -- it stinks. Changing my old 32k sim card to 64k card seemed to help a bit. Check out this thread for more:
