aww.. i like the metal feel and weight.

BG.. whats better for the reception?.. plastic or metal? or no difference?

my 8890 is all metal EXCEPT the antenna box and it works AWSOME! even when its only a dual band phone but really a sinle band cuz i only can get half of cingulars towers.

I am curious if the 8100 will come in a different flavor for each carrier. Historically each provider has had a slightly different look and feel for there blackberries. For example, T-Mobile seemed to get the Black ones and Cingular got the gun-metal grey ones. I personally hope that the 8100 is the same for all. I am digging the look of this thing.

why plastic? does that mean if its dropped its not going to last aslong as say the 7290, 8700?

the plastic is the same high gloss style seen on the typical mp3 player - not friendly to skin oils, but a touch fancier than the mattes and satins we've seen on the recent 'berrys.

having felt one up yesterday, my one line review is:

this is a good phone with blackberry, not a blackberry with a good phone.

it really does cement the 'berry into the niche that the 7100t first created, and is the fully realized (albeit highly evolved) device they were targeting.

right but it all boils down to sellign the product. by changing the color for example the razor.. it opened the flood gates for a different market and therefore sales skyrocketed and the razor got more than 15 minutes of fame!
thats why i asked + i noticed cingular and TMO or VZ all have a little different color or shape to their BB devices.

Wirelessly posted (penkberry: BlackBerry7100/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

But the razr hasn't evolved or been bettered by it's myriad of skintone.
You should have an earnest interest in keeping the blackberry away from such marketing gimmicks, lest it travel the same dark path...

drop plastic and it risks the possibility of being cracked.. drop metal prob jsut get scratched or ding at most.. not a broken back door that wont stay on

why not metal, have you ever left your razr phone in the car? if you have do you remember how hot it was?

the only thing id chang about the new series is i feel they need to be built as solid as the 72xx series.

BTW im diggin the Johnny Knoxville pic, if you go to wiki, theres a blot to the jackass 2 movie

yah my 8890 nokia is metal and it does get a little warm if i leave it somewhere liek the car.. but then again i treat my phone better than my girlfriends so :) he rides shot gun with me always and NEVER left in the car by himself. I think anyone caught leavign hteir cell inthe car should get a misdemeanor! its liek leaving a child in the car.. except worse! and RAZR are garbage.. tried one and horrible reception, along with loudness on the ear piece. ill NEVER touch anohter motorola product again. Motorola should just start making play phones for McDonald happy meals.

kool.. ill have to check out the blot on The Knoxville 8-)

I hope you are right about that. I sold bberries for a couple of years and the 7100t was a major pain in the ass.

A plastic phone, but you can listen to metal music.
You can not listen to plastic on a metal phone.

this is a nice phone. i think you're going to see a whole new surge of bberry users. shoot, i'm one! i pretty much despise the rest of the series. [i've worked on many a blackberry web demos] i'm more of a smart phone geek than a handheld PDA kinda dude. definately nicer than the Q, as long as they market it right... should be a popular device.

You can not listen to plastic on a metal phone.

Actually, if you had a metal phone you could rip and transfer this CD onto it...
Amazon.com: Plastic: Music: Plastic (http://www.amazon.com/Plastic/dp/B000EMH6C4/sr=1-35/qid=1157584566/ref=sr_1_35/002-2924546-2426469?ie=UTF8&s=music)

But that's just a technicality :)
