I'm expecting my eBay, unlocked, new T-Mobile 8700g any day and I've never used a BB before...or any other smart-phone for that matter. I currently use a Cingular 6010 with a 64k SIM and a year left on my contract. Should I anticipate any problems with adding Cingular's Media Net to my acct, either with the BB or Cingular? SIM card all right?

Secondly, how might I change the splash screen from T-Mobile to whatever I might want?

Thanks in advance...Geek_Not

ehh you will need a data plan to access real internet web browsing and connectivity to email etc. with cingular its $29.99 for BIS(personal use)
or $44.99 for BES(corporate use) trust me adding media net does NOT work on blackberry

media net is just cingulars basic wap browser a few sites here n there scores, weather, etc.
bb data plans are ANY site that you want you can access on your bb plus 8700 has edge data support so its pretty fast

Sounds like that's the way I need to go. It'll be personal and business together, so I'll need good data flow.

BIS is blackberry internet service and you can add up to 10 personal email accounts pop/imap etc.
BES is blackberry enterprise service connects with corporate email
both with unlimited web browsing

My business is just one person, me, but I do need to access the net, order supplies from companies, email to different offices, read/send documents etc. You think BES would be the way or BIS?

Since it's just me, looks like BIS would work since both will let me browse.

splash screen is the T-Mobile screen that pops up. I know it can be changed, I just don't know how at this point.

ohh its like a screen saver?

hrstex
08-27-2006, 11:51 PM
yeah. T-Mobile programs it into their 8700g's, just like any other carrier does with their phones. It can be changed to another screen, I just don't know how to change the T-M programming.

I don't think that is going to work to replace his splash screen as he wants. Your instructions on the 8700g won't work. He can replace his Home Screen Image--the background image--that way, but not the T-Mobile splash screen he is asking about. I don't know how to do that--not sure you can.
