Other than homeowners, which is not feasible due to $500 deductible, where could I look to purchase insurance..

You could sign up for Nextel's Direct Protect insurance - $4.95/mo. with a $100 deductible if the BB is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair. Only problem is that you have to have an incident before they'll let you sign up.

My carrier use to offer something similar but it's only applicable you have it in place before loss or damage.

I believe there are other companies, besides the service provider itself, which sell insurance for electronics. I do not have any information on them or their reputations though....

But why insure a 7100?

Since Cingular does not yet insure the 7130c. I went to safeware.com. They charged me $52.00 for $770.00 worth of coverage.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I pay monthly insurance on my Blackberry 7100i.... through my service provider (NEXTEL)

Sprint's insurance (through Asurion) can only be added within 30 days of the activation of a new device.

Save your 5 bucks a month. Depending on your BB, you can purchase a nearly new used unit on Ebay for what you might pay for your deductible if you lose or break your BB. I recently replaced my worn out 7100t with another for 95 bucks, works great, make sure you purchase one that's from the same carrier otherwise you'll have to go through the hassle of unlocking it.

Who do you have your homeowners insurance through? Most companies allow you to put an addition on your homeowners policy to cover items such as cellphones, cameras, etc. I insure all my cellphones this way as the carriers insurance programs have turned into an expensive joke. I added on my 7130e, have $600 worth coverage and have no deductable. I pay about $18 per year. I have had one phone stolen, I called my agent told them what happened and I got a check in the mail about 4 days later with no questions asked. Just make sure you insure your phone for the replacement cost and not what you paid.

If your agent or insurance company won't help you out with this policy find a new one. Also, if you get your insurance online and don't have an agent you deserve what you get
