Here's an intersting use for the camera in the 8100.

Smartpox: Bar Codes For The Web (http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/smartpox_bar_codes_for_web.php)

smartpox » welcome (http://www.smartpox.com/)

Smartpox.com is an interesting crossover between the online and offline worlds. The technology allows users to encode URL links, phone numbers, email, and text into 2D barcodes. These codes can then be read using a cameraphone running the J2ME Smartpox reader. So a Smartpox is essentially a 2-dimensional barcode, which contains data that can be decoded using the Smartpox reader in a mobile phone.

(edit: as soon as they start supporting the blackberry 8100)

Has anyone tried this yet to see if it works?

My wife has a Stop & Shop card (Stop & Shop is the big supermarket chain here in Mass.). The cared has a bar code and we get discounts if we scan it at the register. Like most men, I don't carry the card. But, I took a picture of it with my pearl, and now I can load the pic on my pearl and scan the picture at the supermarket.
