Hey everyone, anyone else experiencing a really dim backlight on their 8100? For whatever reason, I think my backlight is really dim even after I've set it to 100. Is there a way to turn it up even more?

I think the screen is much brighter and far superior to my previous 7100. Legibility is good inside and outdoors. Any brighter backlight would probably come at the expense of battery life.

I say turn it back on. After a few days you might really like how it resonds to varied lighting conditions.

Ya I like how it dims in low light,,, BTW,,if you ever want to turn on the pearl light when it's not on cover the ear speaker holes with your finger... I think that's where the light sensor is...

There is no option to turn off the auto-dim feature on OS versions above .42

The light sensor is with the LED.

If you want it brighter then shine a light on the LED.

That's all you can do.

so d/l the .69 OS has the auto dim feature?

Not sure what you are asking...But let me try and explain it.

In the .42 version you could go to screen/keyboard and set "auto backlight" to On/Off. By turning this feature off you could force the screen bright all the time.

In all subsequent versions the option is gone. The screen will always dim in low light automatically whether you want it to or not.

Does this help?

I just recently d/l and upgraded to the .69... when i got the bb it had the .42 OS system... i do recall having that option of auto backlight when it was fresh out of the box... and now i dont have that option... so your statement was pretty much just confirmation for me! THANKS!

where can I locate a version of the os that will allow me to control the auto dim feature because that is more important to me than anything else.I really wish companies didn't remove features like this since it should be up to the INDIVIDUAL to decide how their phone should be set.

You'll need 4.2.0.42 version. Here's the link:

Ok I went into application loader on .42 but it says the blackberry desktop software doesn't have the right blackberry handheld software for the device connected to my computer? is there a third party way to load the old .42 on my pearl?

On your PC, after you install the .42 software, go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\apploader and delete the vendor.xml file. then start up desktop manager. After you plug in your phone, it should ask you if you if you want to downgrade, or something like that.

Lots of more in depth threads on how to do it in the forum.

.42 was a little unstable. The newer OSes fixed those bugs.

or it can still bug the shit out of you months later just like its doing to me. no way to turn if off after the upgrades, so it remains the worst aspect of the pearl by far.

what would be the reason to disable this?

To conserve battery power.

To conserve battery power.
with that saying, why didn't they lock the backlight to 5 seconds? that way they can claim more hrs of battery life.

Can you adjust how bright the backlight is in bright light without rolling back the software to .42? I realize is will still dim in low light.
